Hello,

We apologize for being so late in expressing our deepest condolences to you and your family. We want you to know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this holiday season and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo, service branch, rank and hometown of David J. Almazan US Army Sergeant.

We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families, friends and others who support our mission.

We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

Sincerely,

My love. I have to admit, I was able to hold in tears for a few years but most recently had to let go. I miss you terribly. My tears today are not that of sorrow but pride in knowing that as we approach 7 years of your passing, your memory, your life and legacies, still live on. Your running team has ran across the world in your honor. Your name is remembered not only days as Memorial Day but everyday. I am very proud of your service and your sacrifice but I do wish and still hope that you'd walk through my door but yes I know, just dreaming. I've seen you yesterday, I've seen you today and I praise our Lord that tomorrow you will right by my side - guiding my journey to living life the fullest. Te Amo Mi Rey.

I met Sgt. David Almazan in iraq 06 early aug. He and I talked while I was there at the firm base near brauns rd. in HIT,IRAQ. He was a real cool guy and we laughed because we had the same first name as we washed are clothes. For a time while we lived and served together during aug.06, he gave me laughter and peace. He was my new friend and we said are good byes and told each other to take care, when i was ordered to move across the eurphrates river. I was deeply saddened of his lost but will never forget his kind and cool brave heart. Sgt. David Rangel 1st squad/1st platoon 1-36 Alpha Company.

This isn't much but I was going through some old pics and saw one with Doc in it. It's not a great pic but I still wanted to share it. It was taken during the first week we were in Afghanistan (2004). We were still in Kandahar waiting to be flown to our final FOB, Orgun-e. He was a great guy to have around. He is missed.
Thanks.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know David, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Sgt Almazan..I am glad I found this online book. Many times I think about you my friend..I will never forget how you put me at ease when putting the IV into my arm and I said to you, "be careful not to let any air in the line", you looked at me abd said,"relax Sir, it is already in your arm." We had some good talks. From the time I met you, it was all about the mission, I fully had trust and confidence in you and I always will..Life is pretty hard after that 14 months there..I don't think there will ever be a time in my life where I think that maybe if I made other choices, well, I just can't even go there, I know you would tell me to stop..You were a great friend and a great leader..Not really sure what else to say..It is very hard for me to put this into words..I will say I was proud to have served with you...I felt I had to say something to you here, but I know you hear me and have heard me from my heart to yours..You will be in my heart and mind always..LT Zeldin

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

MAN WHERE DO YOU START.?? I SERVED WITH DOC IN HAWAII AND TODAY IS THE DAY I FOUND OUT.

I WAS IN HAWAII SINCE 2002 AND WENT TO AFGHANISTAN IN 2004. DOC WAS A GOOD MAN. HE HELPED ME OUT A LOT WHERE OTHER MEDIC WOULD JUST GIVE YOU SOME TYLENOL AND SAY RUN ON NOW. HE REALLY TOOK THE TIME TO DO HIS JOB SINCERE.

I AM DEEPLY SAD TO LEARN OF THIS. SOME GET OUT AND SOME STAY. I GOT OUT, DOC STAYED. I WILL ALWAYS HONOR HIM IN THE HIP-HOP MUSIC THAT I MAKE. MY DEMO VETERAN FOR PEACE IS DEDICATED TO HIM AND ALL THE LOST SOLDIERS. R.I.P.

I wanted to submit this poem as evidence that Americans will NEVER forget the service or sacrifice of your beloved Soldier...Respectfully - Glen Nevogt

“Soldier”
Written to Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers

Soldiers write history, we pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still

We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever

Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away

Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go

We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light

Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray

Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound

Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

To the family of Doc Almazan:

I was stationed in Hit with Doc. Though I did not know him personally, one of the guys on my THT team did know him and chatted with him during one of his missions shortly before the day God deamed it fit to take Doc home.

Just this past week, I and the fellow soldiers of my two teams that were in Hit the day Doc died were attending a dining out with the battalion we deployed with. As the glasses were raised for the toast to, "our fallen comrades," I thought of Doc, PFC Ehle, and the other soldier who was lost in action during my time in TF 1-36 in Iraq. For the first time, I truly understood what that toast meant.... and it hurt and made me proud at the same time. My soldiers raised their glasses and said, "to Doc Almazan!"

To the family of SGT Almazan, I cannot understand what you are going through. Know that only that God does indeed have a plan and His plan will always work towards the good of those that love Him.

Dearest David,

Its been almost a month since you were tragically taken from us however, it still feels so unreal. It seems like just yesterday we were working together and hanging out. I will always remember the great times we shared at Costco. Getting promoted together and learning all there was about being responsible. I still laugh about all the late nights at work we suffered trying to make it happen. I sit here and go through pictures remembering the times we all shared together as friends. As I look at all my pictures I see one thing in common, your smile. You always managed to see the good in people and never had one complaint. The way you spoke of your family and how much they meant to you made you a remarkable person. I still remember the day you told me you were going into the Army. I looked at you in disbelief and asked you why. You said, "Cause I want to try something new and I know this way I can make a difference." That summed up just the type of person you were, always putting others first. You were always so determined and loyal. Loyal to your family, friends and your country. You always had a way of seeing the good in everything. You made everyone around you feel special. Not many people I know possess that quality. I know God took you from us for a reason. He had bigger plans for you. God needed one of his soldiers back and he couldn't have picked a more perfect one. I look up at the stars at night and since youv'e been gone there seems to be a brighter star twinkling down at us. I'd like to think it's just you watching over us and making sure that were OK. Thank You for coming into our lives and leaving your mark. You are missed tremendously and will always be in our hearts. My prayers go out to your family. Your parents could not have raised a better man. They should be very proud because your friendship was Gods gift to many of us.

Love always,

Monica Zavala

To the Family of Sgt. David J. Almazan:

My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courgeous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life. We lost a son 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday.

I know first hand there are no words right now that will bring you the comfort and peace you need. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you mourn this loss. We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with. I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally, but none of these courageous men and women will be forgotten. They will never be able to be replaced, but sometime, someday your loving memories will help to sustain you. This courageous soldier will forever now be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well. To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is those wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever. If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero. God Bless this courageous soldier and family.

My heart goes out to the Almazan family. I was stationed with David in Hawaii and served proudly with him in Afghanistan. You will forever be in our hearts. R.I.P. "Doc"

My Deepest and most heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family of Sgt. David J. Almazan.

The price this young hero and his family have paid for this country and for freedom, WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.

There is so much thanks to be given, for these young heroes, for their Courage, Service and Dedication.

May David rest safely in God's Mighty Hands and may God's Loving Comfort and Grace be with the Almazan family.

I am the sister of such a young hero, who made the Ultimate Sacrifice in Vietnam, many years ago.

Hoping you can feel the thoughts of caring and support that surround you today, as this Country mourns with you, for someone very precious to you, who is a Hero to all of us.

Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and He shall sustain thee.

Psalm 55:22
