To the family of Joseph W Perry......My name is Lisa Quintal. I am the spouse of Col(R) Mary A Maier, former commander of the 16th MP Brigade(ABN). I have a story I wish to share with you. I hold an event during the Christmas holidays every year that culminates with some sort of philanthropic or charitable challenge that I present to my guests. Last year, however Mary and I decided to honor some of the fallen from the 16th. I had dog tags made with each of their names on one and the inscription "Not all superheroes wear capes, some wear dog tags" on the other.
My thought was to have each guest attach them to their key chains and have them make noise to remind them of how insignificant the small irritants in life are compared to the sacrifice the name on that jingling dog tag made. I received Joe's name on my dog tags and Mary received the name of one of the four young heroes that she lost while in her command. This Memorial day Mary and I will be honoring Joe and her fallen four in a lantern floating ceremony here in Honolulu. I hope one day I will be able to meet the family of this superheroe you named Joe, but until then know that his spirit travels with me everyday.

7 years ago on October 2nd it was my birthday. I wish I could remember what I was doing, but I cannot. What I do know was that there was a young Sgt who did what I was not brave enough to do. He laid down his life for our country. For that I will be eternally indebted to him.

I will never forget the day I got the most awful phone call from my son Joe Marietta, your brother in arms. This was the day your soul left us to become someones guardian angel. I THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart! I am amazed by all the bravery, courage, and selflessness you fought with! Many of us will never understand where that kind of inner self comes from.
For your friends and family, I cannot think of any words that will comfort you, but I sincerely appreciate your sacrifice and my heart, soul, and spirit aches for you. You should be proud of the soldier that fought for your city, our states, and this great country we live in. I wish our government had 1% of his courage. Thank you Joe Perry and Thank you to the entire Perry Family.
May you all be Blessed years to come.
Joe Perry I pray that your spirit will live on. Thank you for the freedoms you have given your life for. My family and I will be forever greatful to you.

Jaime Keith and I both had the great honor of serving with Joe in Baghdad. We always looked forward to patrols with Joe and his group. Not a day goes by that I don't think about him, and the last days in the IP stations. God Bless his family and God Bless Joe. You have seen the end of war brother.

I had the pleasure of serving with Joseph in Baghdad in 2006. He was always joking around while we were out on patrols or hanging out at the Iraqi Police Stations. He had a great outlook on life. He believed in what we were doing and I think about him daily. Unlucky 1-3 soldiers still wear the patriot braclets with his name and we will never forget. WE MISS YOU BROTHER!

Joe, what can I say man. It's been over 2 years since I last seen and spoke with you. I miss you and wish that you were still here. I wish that we could have gone to that SC game we were talking about going to when we got back from the sand. We may not come from the same blood but we have shared many situations that would bring us close as brother can be. I love and miss you very deeply Joe.

Dear Joe
We never got to be as close as we should have been, but that never stoped me from looking up to you. You were my hero, when ever I did something good one of the first things that would go threw my mind is that you could do it better. When ever I screwed up I thought, Joe woudent have done that. You were my hero and eversince you were taking from us knowing you are up there watching us has motivated me to be a better husband, friend, brother and now a solder. I go to pick up the fight Dec 30th and I hope to serve with half the honor that you did. Love Cody

The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Joesph, but I am remembering

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Its late on the 2nd, I can't sleep. We put a new yellow ribbon on your oak tree at freedom park in Modesto, had ice cream there then went to Panda Express, since thats where you use to take us. We were robbed of your future a year ago, I can not forgive nor will I forget, though I do understand. There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!
