Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know William, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

The run concludes at the Middle East Conflicts Wall Memorial in Marseilles, Il. All participates are given a dog tag with the name of a fall soldier. I recieved the tag of WIlliam Russell Brown SFC. My name is Amy Murray, I was Billys step-sister years ago and I just recieved the news today about his passing. I had looked for him several times on classmates trying to find out how and what he is doing with his life. It sounds like he grew up to be a fine young man, husband, daddy, son, and a very proud American. I am sooo sorry Billy that I didnt get to find you sooner to say hi and share where and how we have become our own adults of our lives. It would have been nice to have met your little family and my little family to have met yours. Thanks for fighting to keep the USA safe. love your ex step-sister Amy.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

I briefly served with this man in 3/75th RGR Regt. It is a small world but even smaller in the Army and yet evenmoreso, when it comes to warriors like this man. I am proud that he is a shining example of a true Texan and American citizen. Peace be upon him and his family forever, amen.

It is the Solder, not the poet who has given us the freedom of speech;
It is the Soldier, not the campus organizer who has given us freedom to demonstrate.
It is the Soldier-- Who salutes the flag; Who serves beneath the flag; and whose coffin is draped by the flag, Who allows the protestor to burn the flag.

SFC. Brown worked at the recurting station when I joined the army. He was there when I came back from basic to work with them, he was the NCO I most respected there a true warrior he had done everything I wanted to do. When my cousin told me about his death I was shocked. To the family of SFC William Brown I am very sorry that he was taken. I was injured in bagdad by enemy fire. People called me a hero, I am no hero soldiers like SFC. Brown are heros. SFC Brown you will always be in my thoughts and your loved ones in my prayers.

I was recruited by SGT Brown back in 2002 at the Army recruiting center in Carrollton, Tx. I remember him having his tan Ranger beret and talked to him about the different MOS's that the army offered. He impressed me so much that I decided I wanted to join the infantry and used him for the motivation I needed to pass basic. It shocked me to see and remember his face when I was browsing through the Army Times. I am very sad for his loss and offer my condolences to his family. I take pride in my job at the 3rd U.S. Infantry (The Old Guard) in knowing that I honor the finest soldiers in the world such as SGT Brown. He also recruited my cousin Lance who was recently wounded in Iraq and he offers his deepest sympathy as well to SGT Brown's family. He gave it all..so others may live. Thanks for everything SGT Brown.

Billy Brown was my squad leader when we were asssigned to 3rd Bn, 75th Ranger Rgt,we were nieghbors, and my wife provided child care for Emily, but more than that, I considered him my friend. One of the nicest people I have ever met and the most tactically and technically proficient soldiers I have ever served with. 1SG Garganta told me that Billy was gone and I was in shock, I only wish that I had been there with him. To Audra, Trenton, and Emily...my sincerest condolences and know that Tammy, the kids, and I are thinking of you. To Billy...I will never forget you. Michael

I met SFC Brown when I reported into CMATT in February 2004. He was rotating out within a few weeks so I never got to know him as well as I would have liked. What little I did get to know was positive. Brown was unlike most of the people I met at the palace, he wanted to do as much as he could and he was not content to sit around the palace and count down the days until his tour ended. One of the small things I remember about him was a miniature (about 3 inches tall) toy SF soldier he kept on his desk. He was a great soldier and I was sorry to hear of his death.

“Soldier”
Written to Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers

Soldiers write history, we pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still

We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever

Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away

Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go

We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light

Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray

Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound

Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

I just found out today and I am devastated. He was truly a remarkable person. I served with Bill at 3/75. We were privates together in the same squad, with Greg Balloid (previous entry). We got to battalion within about a week apart, so we had countless bonding moments, including in the front leaning rest position. He had it easier than the rest of the Privates at the time because, while doing push-ups he was always able to make even the meanest Sergeants laugh or smile. He had an almost supper human way with words and people. Everybody loved him. I haven’t seen or heard from Bill since I left the Army in ’98 but have always wondered and talked about him. I would have loved to have caught up with him when we were both old and grey to talk about the good ol’ days. He was truly one of America’s finest and will be miss by all that knew him.

To the Brown family,
My heart goes out to you. I am sorry for your loss. I can only imagine what you are having to live through. My family has and will continue to keep you in our prayers. It has taken me awhile to write this. I see the picture of Bill on this web site but it is not the same one from my memory. I remember Bill as being just old enough to be in the Army. He was always quick to smile, make a joke, or laugh. Bill was always my back-up if I ran out of Copenhagen. I was Bill's first team leader at 3/75 and also later, his squad leader. I could go on with the stories and antics that involved Bill. They all still make me smile and laugh to this day. I could go on about the caliber of person Bill is or the man, father, son and husband he had become. But those who have come into contact with Bill already know and my words can not possibly touch those emotions. You will be missed by all Bill, thank you.

I had the priveledge of serving with Bill in Afghanistan from November of '05 to January '06. He was a great guy and a professional in every sense of the word. I'm honored to have had the chance to know him. My deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends.

December 6, 2006

I am the wife of one of the men who was with Bill on Nov. 6. That was the worst phonecall I have ever recieved. Bill was an exceptional soldier, honorable man and a dedicated husband and father. Bill could tell a story like no other and he always had a smile to share. We will miss him always, but I know he will be with us in our hearts forever. Audra is one of the most amazing women I have ever known and his children are a testament to how wonderful a father he was.
When I told my children what had happened, that daddy was hurt and Mr. Bill passed away and went to heaven to be an Angel, my son said, "No mom, he's not an Angel. Men are Gods." My children adored Bill and his family, and I believe he would have had a good laugh over that. Always in our minds and hearts, Bill, we will never forget you.

To the family of Sgt. 1st class Brown. My heart truely reaches out to you for I cannot imagine this scenario with going into a full blown panic. My son is PFC Michael Johnson who was attatched to William's SF unit and my son truely misses him. You all should be proud of his dedication to his country, it should be a tribute to you although in your mourning that may be difficult to see. God bless. I keep you all in my prayers along side my prayers for all the men and women fighting for our freedom.

November 29, 2006

The nicest, humblest, strong, soldier I know... truly epitomized what being a soldier is all about.

November 28, 2006

To the Family of Sgt. lst Class William R. Brown:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

I am deeply saddened by the loss of a great friend. Bill's legacy will live on in all of us who were lucky enough to spend time with him. I just can't believe Billy's gone.
I was watching the news and heard what I thought I would never hear. All I could remember was when we were little kids going fishing at the Trinity River by the zoo and then going to Poncho's after wards with my mom, stepdad, Billy and his best friend Jimmy. We have lost an awsome gift from god in Billy. Billy was the type of person that would make you smile no matter what was going on at the moment. He was a very strong person in reguards to his belifs adn passions. The military, Audra, Trenton, and Emilly were his passions. I know Billy is now watching over us all and if hevan is what I think it is he is casting his fishing rod trying to catch the big one. Billy you will live on in those of us that your kindness has touched. David, Anita,Little David, Audra, Trenton, & Emilly bless you, I will continue to pray for your sorrow and for your heart ach. Just know that he loved you all deeply.
