SFC Haynes, I will never forget your cool demeanor even when junior Soldiers got under your skin. As a young Soldier, I always admired your professionalism and tactical proficiency. Every Memorial Day, I remember you and all the others that made the ultimate sacrifice. Continue to rest easy brother, we've got it from here.

Thinking of Schuyler today. I served with him in the 7th and 25th ID at fort Lewis, WA and Panama. He was our company's most intelligent and thoughtful leaders. He was patient and driven. He was absolutely the most professional and moral soldier I had the privilege of knowing. He treated people with respect and dignity. I will remember him fondly and always.

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Schuyler Family know that we recently sent Care Packages to American troops in the war zones. Each box carried a dedication sheet that includes the name, service information and a photo of your loved one. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,

While it has been many years since the passing of Schuyler, I believe it is important to remember such an outstanding individual. While Schuyler was two years ahead of me at Trinity we shared several years on the rugby team. He was a natural-born leader, a fierce competitor, and a loyal friend. We can all learn a lot from this man.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Schuyler, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Hello, I am SSG Gould, a medic and I used to be in 2-7 CAV, from 1999 through 2005. I knew him from SGT and on. He was always there for all and always put his people and his mission before himself. I was working on a college class and was reading about the start of the Blue Star Mothers and I suddenly though about him. He was appreciated not just by his soldiers but by the wives of 2-7 CAV as well.

To the family and friends,
I would like to extend my deepest sympathies. Losing a loved on is the hardest thing in life. I am writing to not only express my sorrow for you but to let you know about a memorial I am working on. I am creating a quilt to honor the fallen soldiers from the New York City Area. Each soldier will have a panel created. I am inviting the friends and families to get involved. If you are interested or would like some more information please contact me at [email protected]

I don't pretend to know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

I was Schuyler's first roomate before they could issue him a room in the barracks at 2-7 cav. He was always teaching the platoon many useful things and even the senior NCO's were willing to learn from him when he was simply an E-5. I always thought that that was a big sign of respect. I recently found out about his death and it shocked me that God would take such a great human beieng from us. He will be greatly missed by all he came into contact with. "Garry Owen"

Our son, SSG Travis Bennett, is currently deployed in Yusufiyah/Outpost Bataan, Iraq. He was sadden to pick up an out-dated magazine today and read of the death of SFC Haynes, a good friend from Ft. Hood days. Your son died at the same duty station that our son had served at just 16 months ago. Travis said what a wonderful friend Haynes had been (do any soldiers actually have first names?). He said he has many pictures of Haynes on his computer in storage. He would like to be able to contact the family to personally express his condolences. We would be most happy to give you his address or visa versa. On the part of myself and my husband, Ron, please know that there are no words that can express the sorrow we know you are going through. I can think of nothing worse than burying our children. God bless you and keep you, giving you the peace that only He can give and promises to give, the peace that surpasses all understanding. I think of all the wonderful young men who have given their lives in service of this country and some times I wonder if we are truly deserving of their sacrifice. I pray to God that we will prove ourselves worthy, and that God will go before our brave soldiers and give them victory and return them home safely. I thank God for people like you who have raised up outstanding sons like Schuyler who have left the world a better place than they found it. God bless you. Sheila Bennett

I just found out recently about Schulyer's passing. He and I were friends during college and lived in the same dorm freshmen year and spent many a day on the rugby pitch together. Schuyler was a quiet, honorable young man when I knew him and he seemed to live his life post-college much as he lived it during college. I had lost touch with him other than knowing that he was serving in the Army.
He is truly a hero so many ways and I'm sure he is looking down upon us at peace with his decisions and the difference he made in so many people's life.
Rest in peace brother. God has a special place reserved for soldiers and rugby players.

I DID NOT KNOW SGT. HAYNES BUT I AM GRATEFUL TO BE ABLE TO SIGN HIS BOOK. I AM GLAD THAT THIS COUNTRY HAS SUCH DEDICATED PROFESSIONALS TO DEFEND OUR FREEDOMS. FROM READING ABOUT HIM I THINK HE FELT LIKE MY OWN SON-IN-LAW. ON JANUARY 22 HE WAS KILLED IN MOSUL, IRAQ BY AN IED. NICK WAS IN 2/7 CAV AFTER HE HAD VOLUNTEERED FOR THE INFANTRY. HE FELT THAT IF WE DIDN'T STOP THEM OVER THERE HIS FAMILY WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO GO TO THE MALL OR WHEREVER WE WANTED TO GO. HE HAD GOT TO GO HOME TO SEE HIS SON BORN AND HAD JUST RETURNED TO HIS DUTY STATION. I SALUTE SGT. HAYNES AND HIS FAMILY FOR LETTING HIM DO HIS DUTY. OUR MILITARY IS ALL VOLUNTEER WHICH MEANS THESE HEROES PUT THEMSELVES ON THE FRONT LINES FOR US. MY PRAYERS AND THOUGHTS ARE WITH YOU ALL THROUGH THESE HARD TIMES. I LEAVE YOU WITH NICK'S LIFE VERSE OF JOSHUA 1:9.

“Soldier”
Written to Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers
Soldiers write history, we pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever
Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away
Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go
We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light
Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray
Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

Schuyler was a couple years ahead of me at Millbrook School, a small boarding school in upstate New York. As such the 4 classes that comprised this school became sort of close knit family. Every person played a big role in this community and Schuyler was a stand-up guy who made it better through his empathy, leadership and good nature.

I became good friends with Schuyler while at Ft. Ord. Myself, Jim Rachels, and Schuyler spent a lot of time together on the weekends(we were never in the same company). I last talked with him before he left this time for Iraq. We had lost touch for a long time and did not get back in touch with him until right before he was deployed. It was because of God that we were reconnected. I missed him before but I truly miss him now. I am proud to say that I knew him and served with him. To the Family of Sgt. lst Class Schuyler B. Haynes:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.
