Dear Mrs. Davis and family,
Wilbert was a true American hero, defying wishes of family and friends to serve his country. We at Prayer Shawls for Fallen Soldiers would be honored to send you or anyone else in your family a prayer shawl in honor and memory of Wilbert. While it has been over 6 years since Wilbert's death, he is not forgotten. We would just like to say thank you for your and his ultimate sacrifice. If we can send you or anyone else in the family a prayer shawl, please contact me with names and addresses, and we would be honored to do that. Thank you and God Bless.

To the family and friends of Wilbert.
Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers today.
May God and His Angels surround you and bring you comfort.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Wilbert, but he is my hero.

Hello:
You do not know me but I left a tribute for your family member at an earlier date. The reason for my note is to let you know of a group of people who are willing to do portraits of fallen soldiers in wood free of charge. If your family is interested you can visit their website at [email protected].
com. I became aware of this site when I tried to do something special for my son's best friend's mother (my son's best friend was KIA 7/6/07, he was 18). Some of you may have already had this done but for those who did not and would like to, please contact them they are wonderful people.
God bless you and I am so sorry for your loss. Your HERO will never be forgotten.

Well Wil, I guess you already know that I am here in Taill Air Force Base/Camp Adder, Iraq. I am not here as a soldier but as a civilian. I think this was your base for there is a memorial with your name on it erected at the entrance to the base exchange. I don't understand it nor do I think it's meant for me to understand - it just is. Miss you bro - Much Love, Lavon

While working as a civilian employee after retiring from the military at Fort Riley, Kansas, around 1996-97, my wife and I were doing some last minute shopping the day before Thanksgiving at the post commissary. As we departed the commissary we noticed a lady who had completed her shopping standing with 2 small children waiting for a taxi to arrive. My Wife and I, having been there and done that numberous times in my military carreer immediately offered the lady, her 2 children and groceries a ride to wherever they were going. Wil and family had just arrived to the post the night before and were staying at the guest house. After arriving at the guest house small talk followed with an invitation to the Davis's to spend Thanksgiving with me and my family the next day. What followed was a true endearing friendship between the families while we were at Fort Riley. Wil and family departed several years later for Europe and we also departed for Southeast Asia. Several months ago, similar to the first time, we ran into Wil wife and 2 very handsome, grownup, young men as we departed the Fort Stewart PX. As we rejoiced in seeing each other once again, speaking so fast that neither of us could understand what the other was saying we noticed that Wil was not present. We were informed of his passing by his wife which was met with initial disbelief and immediate condolences. We changed the subject and made plans to visit each other in the near future. As my wife and I drove home in silent I was reminded of the many hours we spent together playing cards, barbecuing or just cleaning up our rides. Wil will always be remembered in my heart as more than a friend for he was a true brother, someone who always had your back. Someone you could count on when things were good but more important when things were bad. Knowing that he was there made you feel like everything was alright, all the time. Brother, me and the family miss you, that smile of yours and more so that crazy laugh. Always thought I would hear that laugh again someday but God has a plan for you as he does us all. I miss you.

I have just learned of the death of SSG Wilbert Davis. As the State Chaplain of the Georgia Sons Of The American Revolution and speaking for our President, George Thurmond and more than 1,400 SAR members around the State of Georgia, may I most humbly express the condolences of a grateful Society. SSG Davis, wrapped in the integrity of service to our nation and the inestimable values of duty, honor and country, stood on a wall of freedom for us all. His life and his love of country epitomized every attribute of patriotism the Sons Of The American Revolution hold dear. And, as Americans, we could never repay the debt we owe him ..!! Nor the debt we owe you… his family!!!
