Christian C. Schulz Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 28, 2005.
As a youngster, Christian Schulz used to build tanks out of Legos and play video games involving tanks. Then, a childhood camping trip with the Boy Scouts to Fort Hood, Texas _ where he slept on the range and ate with soldiers _ sealed his dream of joining the military. "I had no idea he had been smitten so badly at the time," said his father, Bob Schulz. Spc. Schulz, a 20-year old armored crewman from Colleyville, Texas, was killed in Baqouba, Iraq, on July 11 by a non-hostile firearms discharge. He was stationed at Fort Hood. He died on his father''s 47th birthday. Schulz joined the Army in June 2001 after studying aircraft engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington for a year. "This kid was so adventurous," Bob Schulz said. "He had a fire lit under his belly, and he wanted to get started. He didn''t want to sit in a classroom anymore." He volunteered to serve on the front lines in Iraq and was determined to return home as a sergeant, his family said. He planned to serve in the military until age 35 and then pursue a career in government.

Christian and I were in the same platoon.(2nd Plt. C co 3-67 AR 4th ID Fort Hood, TX) We spent many nights together on guard duty, while deployed in Iraq. I remember talking and laughing all night long, even in the most hostile of environments. Somehow Chris managed to make each and every night full of fun and excitement, despite the eminent dangers we faced. He was deffinately one of the most dedicated soldiers in the entire Company and he served his country proud. I miss him dearly and think of him on a daily basis. I am honored to have served with such a dedicated soldier. You will be remembered forever Chris, and never forgotten. From one Delta element to another... I sincerly miss you... my battle buddy... my wingman... and most importantly my friend. We shall meet up again, once my time has come.

Your wingman and battle buddy,

White 1 Delta

I still miss you and the way you always made everyone smile. You are still my hero and I will never forget the memories you gave me and the lessons I learned from you. This year I decided to do something positive on July 11 and I had a tattoo designed in your memory. This is something I probably would have never considered before because a tattoo is something permanent and cannot be taken lightly. What better reason than to honor a man who was the best friend I ever had! The words Nelle armi dell'angelo mean in the arms of the angel. I miss you Bob, Emmy, Becky, Adria! Please know you guys also remain in my heart and always will.

With Love

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Christian, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Everyone speaks of a hero, or an American Soldier. But I knew him as a caring, giving person. And someone who loved his coffee and cigarettes. He would give his shirt off his back in a snow storm. I love you Chris. Forever and always.

God Bless You Christian and I know you are flying with the angels. God Bless you Emmy, Bob, and Becky. I love you all. These are the tough times but all you can do is remember his smile.

With Love and Respect, always.
