SFC Shanaberger is a true American Hero who loved his family and gave the ultimate sacrifice for his beloved country. There is something about the 21st Military Police Company that produces heros; among them, SFC Shanaberger.

My name is Ray Shamel and I also was an old friend from Ft. McClellan C-40-2 in 89-90. I realize along time has past but would still like to say thank you for your sacrifice. There was never a dull moment with our 2 platoon demons. Shanaberger was usually the leader of our good times. God bless. My contact number is 810-922-7608 for anyone who would be interested in a text or call.

To Wentz Shanaberger family, I think of him often. We became such good friends during his stationing at Fort Polk (twice). I treated him as another son. He shared so much of his life with us. He will never forgotten....There is love in the remembrance.

I remember Baron from our days in JROTC at Zephyrhills High. None of the other comments on this site about him being a great person and leader suprise me in the least, as that is exactly how I remember him. I can still picture him proudly wearing the uniform that many of his fellow cadets were embarrased to wear to school. Truly a person who knew his calling and served with the utmost pride and dedication. Rest in Peace my friend.

Today you welcome me to heaven and sorrow feels your heart even though we are not together we will never be apart.
Our time we had together was cut short in the blink of an eye but you can still see me in all gods’ glory when you look up to the sky.
Why he called me home so soon right now I can’t explain I know you have the answers and your friends all feel your pain
Today you cry and say good bye to the man you knew and loved but I promise you our next time together will be for eternity in heaven above
Now it is time to move on and let me fly up above I know you will not forget me as you will always feel my love as I look down on you today I know why you are sad but please remember even here in heaven you are still my Mom and Dad...........Rest in peace I thank you from the bottom of my heart

”Honor and Remember” - “Project Compassion” We love our Soldiers! We love our country and we cannot express enough love and compassion to the families of our fallen heroes. War does not discriminate – It breaks our hearts to see the faces of the fallen. We want to give this gift to the hero’s Mother, Father and/or spouse. We are a 501c3 nonprofit organization! Over 1,800 portraits have been completed and shipped to the parents and or spouse - at no cost as this is a gift from one American to another!
This is a gift! We have some wonderful sponsors who help with the costs, and only want you know that we care.
Contact us directly at [email protected] or go to www.heropaintings.com . If you have already had a portrait completed, we pray that you are enjoying the portrait and God Bless You.
Sincerely and Respectfully,
Kenna

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

It has been 760 days or 2 years and 30 days since the love of my life and Daddy to our amazing children was taken from us. We still feel the pain of not seeing that wonderful smile or hearing that familiar voice or feeling the comfort of his strong arms. I know he believed in the mission and he wanted to be there but I wish I could change the past and wish him back to us. I have never had so much pride and love for one person and it will stay that way forever. I truly feel very blessed to have been chosen by him to be his Wife and the Mother of his children and I will Thank God everyday for the time we had with him and for the constant reminder I have of him everytime I look into our childrens eyes and feel their love, their Daddys love.

Wentz, I think of you often. You will be remembered for your great humor, dedication and sacrifice. As your old SQ Ldr I could always count on you! The old 810thers are having a retirement party for SFC Cruz in Jan. I am sure there will be some GREAT Shanaberger stories told as we celebrate his retirement. It won't be the same without you old buddy

I had the pleasure of knowing SSG Shanaberger at Fort Polk around 1999. What a great person, NCO and soldier. He used to make me laugh when I would ask him if something had been done and he'd reply, "Go sit down ma'am, I got it!" You knew when you asked it would be done. Probably the most efficient, energetic NCO I've ever seen. I still think about him all the time and the mischevious grin.

At SSG Shanaberger's memorial in Baghdad, shortly after it started, the generator stopped working, and the lights flickered and went out. We finished the memorial by flashlight. MP's came from all over to pay their respects. It was standing room only, shoulder to shoulder. Once the memorial was over, the generators started, and the lights came back on. In a strange way, it was like God was dimming the lights in tribute of such a great warrior who had fallen doing what he believed in. Leading his soldiers by example. SSG Shanaberger was a great NCO, and it is an honor to call him a fellow MP

I would like to extend my heart felt condolences to your family for such a tragic loss. Him and I served in Hawaii together and even though I did not know him as well as I would have liked, he seemed to possess the qualities of a great leader that eventually proved itself later. God bless your family and the family he left behind, and know that he is with you in heart and spirit.

I served with Wentz during his tour in Hawaii, and can honestly say I have not met a better Soldier and person. He was always driven to excel and motivated his Soldiers to do the same. He was always the guy who would make everyone smile, and always gave of his personal time to take care of others. His presence on this earth will be truly missed, and I hope that his memory will continue to shine bright in your hearts and in the hearts of all those who knew him. Assist, Protect and Defend - MP!!
