Marcus, I miss you so much, theres not a day that goes by that I dont think about you, it's been 7 years and it still seems like yesterday. I have a sticker on my back window of my car that's gonna have to be renewed of you. I talk about you all the time and how brave you were. I saw your family on memorial day and we sat and talked by your grave. Andre moved a few blocks from me so i'll keep an eye out for you. I love you and miss you so much brother!!!

To the family of Lance Cpl. Marcus M. Cherry:
Please know that just as your loved one remains in your hearts and minds; his sacrifice, and that of your family, remains with the people he died defending. Words cannot express the gratitude we feel for his bravery and selflessness, or the heartache we feel for your loss. God bless and keep you always.

Prayer for Peace
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen

I know you had a bad feeling about th mission that you was on. You went into hostile territory loaded with insurgents and it's a shame that by signing a contract who would have ever thought about going to war. I saw your picture on the cbs evening news with a female you was standing next to.I know you was frightened abot going out on patrol that day in the city. I Know gods angels are watching over your girlfriend and all of your friends and family. But why am i writing this i guess you are wandering. Well because i had a bad feeling that alot of military people young and old from privates up to the officers was going to lose their lives if a war takes place and it might last 5 or 10 years than again their might be so much evil after the terrorist strike that the killings in the terrorist countries may never end,it might not never end. I hope to talk to your friends and family one day and i think the highest angels around you watching over me each and every day would want me to connect with your people in California one day. May god bless you cherry and i just wish that i could have talked to you before the war started. There is so much more that i wished i could have talked to you about or putting out some thought about what if this happens.

It is difficult to know what to say since I want to express my sincere sympathy to the family and friends of Lance Cpl Cherry. Please know that your loved one is not forgotten. I wish everyone impacted by this tragic loss strength and peace. I hope that Lance Cpl Cherry knew that there are people in America who respect his great courage in serving as a member of the US military. Although I did not know him, I know that he must have been a very special person to be willing to do something that most Americans will never have to experience, and for that we can never say thank you enough.
Thank you Lance Cpl Cherry!

To the family and friends of Marcus.
Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers today.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Marcus, but he is my hero.

I think of Marcus often. He was a big part of my son's life - and therefore mine as well. I have posted one of my favorite pictures of Marcus with Rigo and my son Robbie on their way to perform as Down Lo. The world is just a little less bright without him here. But, heaven is much brighter because he is there.

Marcus had the ability to take control of a room with his gregarious nature and that infectious smile. All he ever wanted to be was a U.S. Marine and he became one of the best damn Marines it has ever been my pleasure to have known. I consider myself blessed to have had the opportunity to know this young man and as much as I miss him I take solace in the fact that Marcus died doing what he loved. God Bless Marcus and his family.

There was always something about Marcus that caught my attention. I can't really say what it was, but there was just so much behind his eyes. He brightened the room when he walked in and he radiated joy with every smile. It still amazes me how much one person can affect the world, and even now, his life and the way he lived it is touching people every day. I am so thankful for all of the men and women who are fighting for us and I hope we never lose sight of the magnitude of their sacrifices.
Marcus will be in my heart forever and, while I wish he were here, I am rejoicing that he is in Heaven singing with the Angels. All my love to his family and friends. You are in my thoughts and prayers always. We love you, Marcus!
