To the family of Sgt. Felix M. Delgreco:
Please know that just as your loved one remains in your hearts and minds; his sacrifice, and that of your family, remains with the people he died defending. Words cannot express the gratitude we feel for his bravery and selflessness, or the heartache we feel for your loss. God bless and keep you always.

Dear Delgreco family,
I am writing as a representative of the Home of the Brave Quilt Project. I want to offer you my condolences on the death Sgt. Felix Mario Delgreco. I have read many of the newspaper accounts, and I cannot imagine your grief at the loss of such a special young man. I wish I had met him.
I want you to know that a quilt has been made for you in his memory. My part in the project is to contact the family and to verify information for delivering the quilt. I hope that you will feel comfortable accepting the quilts as a symbol of our thanks & desire to reach out to you & your family.
I can be reached by phone at
(860) 875-1346, or by email at [email protected]
Please be assured that your information is not shared with anyone for any other purpose.
I am enclosing literature about the Project, so please feel free to verify any of the information.
As I contact families and learn about their loved ones, I am struck by the varied responses that I receive. Know that I believe that your grief is a private thing and that any response, including a refusal, is also private. Please contact me if I can clarify anything or provide any assistance.
My prayers and thanks to you,

Felix, I will never forget the time we spent together in the Boy Scouts on our trips along the Saint Croix River in Maine or on Big Muson Island off the Florida Keys. You were a source of inspiration. Your positive attitude was contagious. I will never forget you quoting Wayne's World, making people laugh while most people were frustrated living for a week on an unihabited island off the Florida Keys in the heat of August. I will always appreciate your friendship. I will never be able to thank you enough for your sacrifice and your patriotism. I will never forget those fond memories, will always appreciate your friendship and will always laugh when I think of our high adventure trips together. Thanks for your friendship Felix!

It is difficult to know what to say since I want to express my sincere sympathy to the family of Sgt Delgreco. Please know that your loved one is not forgotten. I wish everyone impacted by this tragic loss strength and peace. I hope that Sgt Delgreco knew that there are people in America who respect his great courage in serving as a member of the US military. Although I did not know him, I know that he must have been a very special person to be willing to do something that most Americans will never have to experience, and for that we can never say thank you enough.
Thank you Sgt Delgreco!

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers today.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

Dear Delgreco Family,
I realize there is NOTHING that could be said to you that could ever ease the loss that your family has endured... I wouldn't even begin to try.
I simply felt the need to convey my deepest, heart felt condolences, to those that lived nearest me...
I SIMPLY HAD TO reach out to those that lived closest to me and let their families know that the sacrifice that their SONS & DAUGHTERS have made ARE NOT, and WILL NOT be forgotten, and were not made in vain!
We gladly add your beloved son to our prayers, along with ALL of our other fallen Sons & Daughters!
God Bless YOU and YOUR FAMILY, and "MAY THE PEACE OF THE LORD BE WITH YOU!"

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Le Ron A. Wilson (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
