Kenneth L. Sickels Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 28, 2005.
Not long before he left for Iraq, Kenneth L. Sickels tackled his "To Do" list. He rode a mechanical bull. He made a trip to a theme park, Magic Mountain. And he took a swim with his cousins and nieces. "There was only one thing he didn''t do," his mother, Joyce Lacy, said. "He wanted to go sky diving." Sickels, 20, of Apple Valley, Calif., died Sept. 27 in a non-combat accident in Anbar province. He was based at Twentynine Palms and had been in Iraq only 34 days. Sickels loved video games and music, and was fond of singing along with his favorite songs, including Tim McGraw''s "Live Like You Were Dying." The character in the song, who is facing a serious illness, goes bull riding and sky diving. "He wanted to live life to the fullest," his mother said. Sickels talked of making a career in the Marines, and enlisted in April 2003. After he arrived in Iraq, his family recalled sending him a CARE package of tortillas, beans and cheese to make burritos, which he said he could heat up on the engine of his Humvee. He also is survived by his father, Glenn.

I don't pretend to know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

Those we love remain with us, for love itself lives on...
And cherished memories never fade, because a loved one's gone....
Those we love can never be, more than a thought apart....
For as long as there is memory, They'll live on in the heart.

May the memories of your loved one live in your heart always.
I am deeply sorry for your loss.

Dearest Family,

You do not know me.

My name is DeNise and I live in Vallejo Ca.

Last year I bought a bracelet from hero bracelets.

It is an orgainzation for families of fallen soldiers.

When I ordered my bracelet I had no idea the name I would get.

When it arrived it said, Pfc Kenneth L. Sickles Apple Valley, CA Marine 9/27/04

I have always wanted to ride to Apple Valley and meet you, his family.

I have wanted to tell you, "Thank You" for raising such a brave selfless young man. i have wantd to wrap my arms around you and say a prayer for you.

I just found this obituary and am taking a chance at writing.

Please forgive me if I have done any harm in my writing. It is not my intention.

I am just a Patriotic Mom who wears your sons name with pride and dignity everyday, as if he were my own.

I will always wear it.

Sickles family, thank you for allowing me to wear Kenneths name and share his courage and strength with others.

I too enjoy Tim McGraw, and the rodeo so when I read this obituary, I cried once again.

I have prayed for you daily since I got this bracelet and would consider it a privilege to meet and talk with you. Please feel free to write me. And if I have hurt you in anyway, Please forgive me, I would never want that to happen.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Ever so sincerely,

God Bless and hold you and yours.

May God bring you peace in your heart as you reflect on all the wonderful memories you hold so close. Please know that you are in my heart and prayers. Kenneth it has been 19 months since you were taken. You are a hero and you will never be forgotten.

I send each of you a hug from the most inner part of my heart.
