20 Years.
The time has passed but I am positive that the loss is still felt by everyone who knew him. I served with the Major in Iraq at the time of his passing, and I was on the other end of the radio when the call came in. That was a tough day.
To his family and friends that still feel the void, all I can express is how often I still think of him and that day; and how his loss impacted so many. I toast his memory every year, think of him and those who still morn. Not unlike my own experience losing my father while in high school, I understand the weight of his loss. Missed milestones, missed holidays, just missed...
Here's to you Major, to you, to yours, to positive things that will come.
Salute.

Hey Bud, Still think about you and your family. I still bring my kids to your memorial at RVS and thank you for your service. We straighten up the flag and give a salute. You are the true definition of a hero to me. You define what is the best about our Country and humanity. Now that the wars are over, it's time to reflect on the impact of them. You served while so many stood on the sidelines, including me. You gave your life for what you believed in. I hope I can live up to the courage and bravery you displayed and maybe make the world a better place. God Bless you Rob

Dear Sally,
Charles sounds like he was a true hero. I know he loved everything military and God Bless you and your family for letting him serve his country. It has now been 5 years since you lost him, but I am sure you and your sons miss him all the time. I am a member of PS4FS (Prayer Shawls for Fallen Soldiers). We send prayer shawls to family members of our fallen heroes who want them. In Memory of Charles Robert ~ (Debra Estep)
October 13, 2008
Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know 'Rob', but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend (KIA on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

I would like to share with you the following article which gave some comfort to my family when it was sent to us after my brother, Pvt. William Niader USMC, was killed June 12, 1945 at Kunishi Ridge, Okinawa during World War II.
New York, August 2, 1945
“What Is Dying?”
“I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength, and I stand and watch her until at length she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come down to mingle with each other. Then someone at my side says, ‘There, she’s gone!’ Gone where? Gone from my sight – that is all. She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side, and just as able to bear her burden to the place of destination. Her diminished size is in me, not in her. And just at the moment when someone at my side says, ‘There, she’s gone!’ there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices ready to take up the glad shout, ‘There she comes!’ – And that is dying.”

At the grave of a hero we bend, not with sorrow at the inveitable loss but with contagion of his courage, and with a kind of desperate joy we go back to the fight.

Maj Soltes was my company commander and an amazing human being, while I was heartbroken to be sepersted form my unit becuse of a transfer before deployment, Maj Soltes gave me words that inspired hope. He personally walked me over to my new unit and said they better take good care of me or he would be taking care of the matter personally. I had never had an officer who cared about his troops so much, and was heartbroken and crushed when I herd the news and was not allowed by my unit to attend his memorial. His word and kindness are always in my thoughts nearly every day. My deepest sympathy to his family.

On a recent trip to DC I had the opportunity to visit Arlington Cemetry. At the Womens Memorial building the was a temporary display of Artist's impressions of the heroes from the Iraqi War.I noticed this young mans picture among the 1720 on display. My heart and thoughts go out to his family and friends. His relatives had left some touching notes next to his pictures....and after reading them my friend and I were in tears.
God Bless the Soltes family and all the relatives and families so tragically involved in the war.
