Kurt J. Comeaux Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 28, 2005.
Kurt Comeaux did everything he could for his wife Tiffiny and their three children. "He was like Mr. Dad who also worked a full-time job," said his mother-in-law, Karen Gunn. Comeaux, 34, of Raceland, La., died Jan. 6 when a roadside bomb exploded in northwest Baghdad. He was based in Lafayette, La. Tiffiny and Kurt Comeaux were high school sweethearts and had been married for 12 years. He worked as a probation and parole officer and the couple had three sons, Bryce, 9, and twins Brandon and Brody, 7. The day he left for training before leaving for Iraq, Comeaux's father died. He was able to attend the funeral, but soon after was diagnosed with cancer himself. "He had the surgery and the military took care of him," Gunn said. "He's had so many tragedies during his military service, but he stayed focused." Kurt Comeaux was due to come home on leave on Feb. 14, Valentines Day. Karen Gunn said her son-in-law had told his sons that he would have a special surprise for them in 2005. "That surprise was that he was going to come home," she said.

Hello,

We apologize for being so late in expressing our deepest condolences to you and your family. We want you to know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this holiday season and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo, service branch, rank and hometown of Kurt J. Comeaux US Army Sergeant 1st Class.

We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families, friends and others who support our mission.

We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

Thinking of you today my old friend as this Mardi Gras season is upon us. What wonderful memories I have of you, Tiff and the boys watching the parades by NSU on the corner that I was assigned to patrol.I still think of you every year at this time, especially as I pass that corner daily.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Kurt, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

I didn't know Kurt Joseph Comeaux. I actually just accidently stumbled on to this obituary while wandering the internet. It more than caught my eye, and I am touched and affected by Kurt and everyone who loves and is feeling for his life and death. I am sure, without knowing him, that he was a good man that led a purposeful life and his energy stays with us and the universe always. He won't be forgotten

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

I recently saw the Memorial Day 2006 special on TV honoring our Military. Living in Lafayette for many years and marrying into a cajun family, I have a very special place in my heart for folks from Louisiana. I was so happy to see Kurt honored as he was. He and the others who died deserved all of that recognition plus more. God Bless you and your family.

Dear Mrs. Comeaux,Bryce, Brandon, and Brody:

I was on the web just today to look up some information on Abraham Lincoln, my favorite American President. A quote of President Lincoln's was conveyed to you in memory of your husband and father. I am glad I opened the link and read about Mr. Comeaux.

I already typed and deleted this entry three times. In the end, I just want to wish you my deepest sympathy and, perhaps above all else, my respect and admiration of your husband...and dad... His bravery is inspiring.

Psalm 23

1

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.

2

He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,

3

He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

4

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

5

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

6

Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

This is a verse that I have found to be comforting to me during my husbands death. Remember that when it seems that no one else is round, God is still there with you! And he will be your rock!

My daughter,McKaLyne, and I send our heartfelt sympathy for your loss! God Bless this warrior, God Bless those whom serve freedom's cause! They are our true HERO's!!!!

Dear Mrs. Bryce, Brandon and Brody,

I am someone you do not know and will probably never meet, yet I want to say something to you about your daddy.

First, let me tell you I am a daddy, too, with a daughter (4) and a son (2), and I work at a school. I help people [with enough money] to give back to the school so it can help teachers and students and families.

I also know you guys and your mom lost your dad in January...and that he died so very bravely - helping to free a country full of very sad and mistreated people, while helping to make sure the United States and the rest of the world would live in peace and freedom. In addition to raising money for schools, I also help educate students regarding our armed forces, though I've never served, and how much they need to recognize and appreciate their service - to our country, the world and mankind....

I saw your daddy featured and memorialized on the news tonight and my heart is very sad....because I know the only thing sadder than watching my children cry, is the thought of leaving them and their mommy behind and not being able to share the blessed joy of watching them grow up and have families of their own....

There are so many people like me across our great nation and the world who feel so very sad, yet even more proud of the sacrifices your daddy has made in the name of freedom and peace - for everyone. And we know that sacrifice is made by you guys and your mom, as you live a life without him, yet in honor of his service.

These are all big thoughts for you to understand - yet I believe you do...And you should never - not ever - forget that the world is eternally grateful for your daddy's bravery. He and his fellow fallen soldiers are heroes -they are ordinary men who did extraordinary things - and made the ultimate sacrifice for their country - your country - our world.

And to you, Mrs. Comeaux, my grief and gratitude could not be greater, nor more sincere.

As Abrahamn Lincoln so famously conveyed to a mother of several fallen soldiers during the civil war (slightly paraphrased): "I hope that that the honor and servitude of your sons will somehow assuage the grief you must feel now..." I wish you a world of healing and lifetime of pride and remembrance in honor of your husband. Thank you - for YOUR sacrifice - and Kurt's. God Bless.

Comeaux Family,

Kurt and I went to school together, from as early as I can remeber up to graduation. He and my brother, Ernest were best of friends from around 6th grade and up. I remember him as a person of integrity and honesty and a mild mannered gentleman. He will be missed by both of us. He was definitely one of the good guys.

We Remember Them:

At the rising of the sun and at its going down,

We remember them.

At the blowing of the wind and in the chill of Winter,

We remember them.

At the opening of buds and in the rebirth of Spring,

We remember them.

At the blueness of the skies and in the warmth of Summer,

We remember them.

At the rustling of leaves and the beauty of Autumn,

We remember them.

At the beginning of the year and when it ends,

We remember them.

As long as we live, they too will live; for they are now a part of us,

as we remember them.

When we are weary and in need of strength,

We remember them.

When we are lost and sick at heart,

We remember them.

When we have joys we yearn to share,

We remember them.

When we have decisions that are difficult to make,

We remember them

When we have achievements that are based on theirs,

We remember them.

As long as we live, they too shall live, for they are a part of us,

as we remember them.
