Morgan W. Strader Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 9, 2005.
As Marines got ready for the battle of Fallujah, Gary Strader learned that his son had developed a skin condition. If it didn't clear up within two weeks, he was to be sent home. "I was ecstatic," his father said. His son, Morgan W. Strader, had another feeling. "He decided he wasn't coming home," his father said. "He said, 'Dad, the guys in my unit aren't experienced in this,'" his father recalled. "'I need to help them.'" Morgan Strader, 23, of Crossville, Tenn., died Nov. 12 in Fallujah. He was based at Camp Pendleton, Calif., and was fond of saying, "When Marines die they don't go to heaven. They just go to hell and regroup." "He was a Marine from the day he was born," his father said. "His grandfather was in the Army during Korea. He latched onto that and loved it." Strader graduated from high school in 2000 as a member of the track team and wrestling squad. He also joined the cross country team to get into shape for the Marines. "He was a responsible kid. He was the most loyal kid I have known. He was heart and soul to anything he was involved with," said his former English teacher Angela Bradley.

I taught Morgan German language at Patch High School in Germany back in 1995-1996. We had a great relationship. He had a great sense of humor, but more importantly, had a great personality and was a good, solid kid. I was not just his teacher, but also his friend. I was, am still am, devastated when I heard of his death. Having taught German for 44 years, beginning in 1969, I have lost many of my former students. I miss them all, and regularly pray for their individual souls. Morgan is a true American hero. I thank you, Morgan, for your ultimate sacrifice. Your family can know that you touched my life and many others. They raised a fine man.

It is your 40th birthday today. It is hard to believe that it was 40 years ago that you entered the world. From the time you were very small, you challenged me to be a better person. I failed often, but you never relented. Our conversations about life, the hard things, the memorable things, the joyous things, will always stay with me. I miss you and look forward to our reunion where there are no more tears and sadness. Dad

Yesterday my son and I ran the Hero Hustle 5k in Shelbyville, IN where we were given cards with the names of service members who were killed in action, and my sons card USMC Sgt. Morgan Strader. I have been reading everything I can find about this amazing, and selfless young man this morning, and I am beyond grateful, and saddened, by his sacrifice for our country. Although its been 15 years now, Im sure not one day gets any easier. My thoughts and prayers, sincerely, go out to the family, friends, and all those who served with this brave hero.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Morgan, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Travis and I continue to think of Morgan's family and friends, who were left behind. "I will not pretend to know how you feel. I know I feel such tremendous loss, That to understand the intensity of your sorrow, Is truly incomprehensible. The pain that you experience at this time Is a commemoration of your love. What now brings such sorrow Is what once brought much joy. I am helpless, As we all are in the hands of death. I have no control or power to make your world brighter. What I do have and offer you sincerely, Is my presence with you through this time. To remember your loved one with you And support you with my care, For whatever you need."

Morgan and I were close friends in junior high. He always knew that he was going to be a Marine, and when I read that he volunteered to stay in Iraq I was not suprised. He is a true hero, and I thank him and his family for the sacrifice he made to preserve our freedom.

I had a dream recently where I saw Morgan in heaven. He was just smiling, at peace, with God for all eternity.

I pray that his family could know that same joy and peace now, and know that Morgan is in a good place right now.

God bless you.

I went to high school with Morgan...what I remember most about him was his awesome sense of humor. It is a tragedy for the world to lose such an awesome person. We were definately blessed with his presence and I know his memory will forever remain in the hearts of those knew him.

August 13, 2007

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

To the family of Sgt. Morgan W. Strader:

My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courgeous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life. We lost our son 12/1/05.

I heard of this young man through a friends of yours at your church (Brenda) and wanted to sign this man's guestbook. I know first hand there are no words right now that will bring you the comfort and peace you need. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you mourn this loss. We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with. I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally, but none of these courageous men and women will be forgotten. They will never be able to be replaced, but sometime, someday your loving memories will help to sustain you. This courageous soldier will forever now be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well. To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort. When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero. God Bless this courageous soldier and family.

Psalm 23

1

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.

2

He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,

3

He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

4

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

5

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

6

Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

This is a verse that I have found to be comforting to me during my husbands death. Remember that when it seems that no one else is round, God is still there with you! And he will be your rock!

I am very proud of our Marines and their families/love ones for their devotion to our country. I served with 3/1 for three years, our USMC for 13 years and enjoyed every moment. From a disabled, then forced to retire HMCS sailor

I spent my summer vacation in Crossville and found the people there to be beautiful and friendly. I am sorry that one had to be lost in Iraq - but what a wonderful person he must have been!
