Danny L. Anderson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 3, 2005.
When Danny L. Anderson returned to his high school, some of the teachers might not have recognized him. After all, the man with the short hair and uniform once was a Goth who wore all black. "He even had black fingernails," recalled one teacher, Maria Casares. "When he was here in December, he was a changed man." Anderson, 29, of Corpus Christi, Texas, died Feb. 27 in Baghdad when his checkpoint came under fire. A 1994 high school graduate, he was based at Fort Stewart. Dennis Anderson, his father, described his son as a "good kid growing up to be a good man." When Anderson returned to his high school, he encouraged the students to make the most of their time in school. "He was motivating because he had not always been so focused," Casares said. "I think it took him this long to find his way." Anderson once worked as a window washer but needed a stable job. He joined the Army in 2003 after marrying his high school sweetheart, Moriana. He and his wife just had a baby boy, Noah Daniel. "Before he left, he said that he'd promised Noah that he would be back," said Danny's mother, Pat Brady.

Hello. I've worn a KIA bracelet with Danny's name on it since 07-08 and other soldiers have worn it as well. It's been all over the world and is beat up pretty bad. It has a gash on it as well from protecting the top of another soldiers hand when he was working in a humvee engine during a deployment. I would like to give it to someone in his family. I don't know why. I just feel The need to. I've allowed the settings here for someone to contact me through here. I would really like to get it to his wife or his parents or siblings.

Danny not a day goes by that I don't think of what happened that day we were in Iraq. I still remember the day you first got to Ft. Stewart and we started a friendship that will last for ever. Since your passing I have had a son of my own and named him Cyril Ryan-Lamar. He was born May 3rd 2011. I also have a daughter who is 4 who was born Feb. 26th, that makes it hard for me as the next day is when you went to a better place. I miss you so very much and know that you are looking down on us everyday and can see how your sons are growing into wonderful young men and love and miss you very much! I love you bro!

I've worn a KIA bracelet with Danny's name on it for a little over three years. I never knew him, I've never met this man, but every time I look down at my wrist I think about him; which is everyday.

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guest book for the rest of my life, but I promised LE RON A. WILSON (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.

Danny,

Your memory will always be apart of me and the great times we shared growing up in CC. Though we may have lost touch over the years, know that I will be forever indebted by your sacrifice. Knowing that our oldest sons share the name Noah shows how our lives are connected even after all these years. I hope to continue your honor as I serve, and keep our fellow solders safe from harm. May God look over your family.

Dear Danny,
This is a very difficult letter for me to write. You see, I was one of the 3 medics working to save you when you were brought into the Aid Station in Rustamiyah, and we tried so hard. We did CPR and I tried to get your blood pressure and vitals, but there weren't any. I wrote down your time of death when CPT Oas pronounced you. You were the first U.S. soldier I ever lost. I left the Aid Station, went back to my room and cried like I hadn't for years. I still remember your face that night, and how peaceful you looked, and I think that was because you were already in another place, a place of peace and light. I wanted to get your parents' address so I could write them and let them know that you left this world surrounded by those who truly cared. The Chaplain never got the address, so I hope your family sees this tribute. I never knew you except in your last moments of life, but I think about you often, especially when I'm able to save a life once in a while. God be with you and yours, brother, and I'll see you again, in another time, in another place...
Very Sincerely Yours,

Psalm 23

1

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.

2

He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,

3

He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

4

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

5

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

6

Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

This is a verse that I have found to be comforting to me during my husbands death. Remember that when it seems that no one else is round, God is still there with you! And he will be your rock!

My daughter,McKaLyne, and I send our heartfelt sympathy for your loss! God Bless this warrior, God Bless those whom serve freedom's cause! They are our true HERO's!!!!

I want to say first of all how proud of this young man and I'm so very sorry for his families loss. I want the family to know that I am very proud of each and every person who fights for our rights here and gives us the freedom to live like we live. All gave some, some gave all. I know that no words of comfort will help you at this time or I would write them. I did not know your son, I do know of his sacrifice, his courage to step up and make a difference and yes he did make a difference! Please accept my condolences. We as a nation owe you a debt we can never repay. Sincerely, the father of a fallen Marine.
