Kurt... so hard to believe it´s been almost 20 years since you´re passing. Uncle Dennis and I want you to know that we have raised puppies for an organization that trains these dogs to assist visually impaired and also people suffering from PTSD.
We were just recently informed that a new little black lab puppy has been named in your honor. She´s a little female and so her name is Shami after you. I know she will do wonderful things just as you did.
We love you and miss you every day.

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Schamberg Family know that we recently sent Care Packages to American troops in the war zones. Each box carried a dedication sheet that includes the name, service information and a photo of your loved one. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,

To the family of Kurt Schamberg. I already posted the comments below on another Web page I found, but wanted to post them here as well because I want to make sure his family and friends know that they are not alone in keeping his memory alive. All of the heartfelt postings in both places have moved me deeply.
As posted on www.fallenheroesmemorial.com:
I did not know Sgt. Schamberg. In fact, I never even knew of him at all until I requested a Hero bracelet and received one with his name on it. I wanted to know more about the man whose name I wear on my wrist, so I ran a Google search and I believe it was fate that put this Web page at the top of the results list. I have read each and every post about Kurt Schamberg and I am extremely proud to wear the bracelet bearing his name. I will be a loyal spokesperson for his memory to people who would otherwise not have known of him, like me. Each time somebody asks me about my bracelet I will be proud to tell others about Sgt. Kurt Schamberg and what I have read about him here. I will help you all to keep his memory alive and assure that his loss is not forgotten or taken for granted. To his family, I will do my best to be a worthy messenger and to be respectful of his memory. I am honored to wear this bracelet. Sgt. Schamberg....Thank you for your service and sacrifice for this country and for all of us who are better off because of it.
Very sincerely,

To the family of Sgt. Schamberg,
Please know that just as your loved one will remain in your hearts and minds, his sacrifice and that of your family, will remain with the people he died defending. Words cannot express the gratitude we feel for his bravery and selflessness, or the heartache we feel for your loss. God grant you the peace that passes all understanding.

The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Kurt, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

One year after Kurt's funeral the family came together at a picnic at Aunt Kt's place. Relatives and friends came from near and far to relax and enjoy each other and remeniscing of days with Kurt.
T & C Kurt's old softball buddies won 1st place in the "Sgt. Kurt Schamberg Memorial Softball Tourney" that will be held every year over Memborial Day.
We had fun and shed some tears too. Life is sure different without him. Thanks to all of you who think about us. And to those of you who helped with the "planting of the trees" and Kurt's memorial garden maintenance and planning...As is the case in Grand Valley. Our friends and family brought food for the picnic and helped haul chairs and tables...our community is extra-ordianry when it comes to pitching in and helping each other....for whatever reason. For that I am proud to say Orwell is my hometown.
It is extremely difficult dealing with our loss. With the help of our beloved family and friends we manage to "make it through the days".
So we remembered Kurt and others who have so bravely given their lives in service to our country. Those living and dead. The families and friends of our soldiers sacrifice each day when their loved one goes to "work" everyday.
When you see a soldier please say "thanks for what you do" . YOu will see a smile as big as the sun. They do their job without asking for "thanks" but when they hear that one little word.....it makes up for all the times they read a newspaper........believe me they really need to know we care!
remember always with LOVE

I would like to send my sympathy to the Schamberg family. Although I only knew of and went to school with Terah and Kurt, I did know their dad, Tom Schamberg. He was not only my gym and health teacher but he was my friend, almost like a father figure to me and was there for me through my tough times. I cannot imagine losing a child, I just got out of the Army and had a son of my own this March. I have thought of Mr Schamberg and his family and I pray for them. I honor Kurt and although he is not here with us; he is forever in our hearts and memory. He really was a hero and since Mr Schamberg was his dad, I regret ever getting the chance to know his son.

To the Schamberg family
I never had the pleasure of meeting your son, or even your family, but I happened to be in downtown Orwell on the Saturday of Memorial Day. I was totally oblivious to what was going on but soon it became very clear. I was absolutely amazed at the show of support, as people lined the streets from Orwell, through Windsor, into Huntsburg. It was something I will never forget. My deepest sympathies go to your family, and the memory of Kurt and the sacrifice he made so we all can be free will never be far from my mind. I will continue to pray for your family in your time of loss. God Bless

My heart goes out to my sister Pam and all mothers who have lost their children. May we all find solace in the fact that Kurt was doing what he really wanted and believed in both his and the efforts of his comrades in arms. We will miss his talents as well as his antics.

I have known Mark for years and have talked a lot to Pam online. As a mother who has lost a son, I know her pain. I wish there was something I personally could do to help her. "Mark" stand by your woman as I know you will.
All my love, 'Ree

Words cannot express how thankful I am in my heart for Kurt's service to our country and for the overwhelming love, support and honor he received (and continues to receive) from people all over the country, especially the Grand Valley, OH area. Thank you to all of our military men and women who protect our country and are willing to give the ultimate sacrifice not only for us, but to a foreign people whom they don't even know.
I am one of Kurt's very proud aunts who loved him dearly. Pam and Tom, I will never forget the times we shared when I lived with you while in High School and all of the great times we had with those wonderful little kids who grew up to be such amazing people!
I love you and am proud to be a part of this great family and community. Kurt, you will be in my heart forever, and you will never be forgotten!

We never had the opportunity to meet Kurt but we enjoyed hearing stories of Kurt and the type of person that he was from Pam. We especially enjoyed seeing the pictures of him that Pam would email us. We were looking forward to possibly meeting him this summer when we traveled to Wyoming to visit Mark and Pam. Your family should be so proud of him. He died supporting what he truly believed in....a brave man, a hero. Your family is in our thoughts and our hearts.

My deepest sympathy goes out to the family of Kurt, I remember him as a lover of life. Everyone that met him liked him. His sence of humor was one of a kind.
Our prayers go out to all of the family and the families of all who have given their lives.
Pray for Peace.
God bless, Brad

Mark and I would like to thank all of you for your kind words of support. They are greatly appreciated and comforting. There will be days ahead that will be very difficult. It helps to know that there is support for our military men and women fighting for our safety overseas. These people are amazingly selfless. Making our lives easier. Kurt, Dareen, and Charles all sacrificed their lives for freedom. They knew that their presence in Iraq was necessary for Iraqi's to someday be free. To see Americans losing lives for THEM for US. Kurt was indeed a special person. He wasn't the kind of person to be vengeful or spiteful. He always wanted those around him to have fun and feel comfortable. He treated everybody with kindness. Even if he was kidding with them he was being kind.
Being selfish, we wanted him to return home to us so that we could once again enjoy his jokes, kidding, his hugs, sharing a beer and wonderfully talented artworks.
WE THANK all of you for your entries to this site........ they help.
