Michael T. Seeley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 5, 2007.
Michael T. Seeley served in the Canadian armed forces for almost two years before switching to the U.S. Marines. He was seeking prestige. "It was the lure of the Marines," said Barry Labillois, Seeley's uncle. "The travel, the training. The Marines are supposed to be the best. He figured he was the best and that's where he was going." Seeley, 27, of Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada, was killed Oct. 30 in Baghdad when his vehicle struck an explosive. He was assigned to Fort Hood. Seeley was a member of the First Nations People of Nova Scotia, known as the Mi'kmaq. Since Canadian aboriginals have dual citizenship and are considered citizens of North America, there is a long-standing tradition of First Nations people joining the U.S. military. He served with the Marines in Japan, South America, Africa and Iraq before getting an honorable discharge after four years. He then joined the Army. "He knew his job was dangerous," said his mother, Theresa. "He always preached to me, 'Be ready if it does happen. If it doesn't, that's great, but be ready.'" He also is survived by his father, Lorne.

We love our Soldiers! We love our country and we cannot express enough love and compassion to the families of our fallen heroes. Over 1,450 portraits have been completed and shipped to the parents and or spouse - at no cost as this is a gift from one American to another!
Contact us directly at [email protected] or go to www.heropaintings.com. If you have already had a portrait completed, we pray that you are enjoying the portrait and God Bless You.

Thanks for all you did, in both the Canadian Army, and the American. You are a true brother in arms to the men and women to serve both Country's. Your loss will be not be forgotten. God bless your family during such a difficult time; but may they always remember, that Canada supports all troops in action.

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Le Ron A. Wilson (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.

Know in your heart that Mike is a true hero and will never be forgotten. All gave some, some gave all. Rest in peace Mike. You will be missed by everyone’s life you have touched.

To Mike's family, as the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life’s routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family, friends, and all Americans for the sacrifice of one of your family members for our freedom. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. May you find comfort in the loving embrace of our Heavenly Father.

Mike, We hardly knew each other, But I still remember going to the Island with you and several others, man I think we were all scared beyond our wildest dreams. I still remember that day as though it was yesterday, it was very hot and humid, I remember you didn't seem at all nervous or scared but inside I know you were, we all were. With your calm outlook on the rough road ahead you helped us stay calm and not worry much. I'll never forget our conversation, the laughs we had.

Though not long friends, but friends is the point.

As one Mi'Gmaq to another, Go in peace Brother. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
