The flag is flying in the sky
A daily reminder of who and why
We sit here remembering them today
These heroes that now lie in their grave.
While here on earth, the bravest ones
A soldier, a mother, a daughter, a son
The father's who went far off to war
To ensure our safety and so much more
To keep our children happy and free,
Someone must do this job, you see
So, today remember the soldiers who served,
Because this is one thing they truly deserve.
The loved one's that they have left behind,
The Gold Star mothers, like your and mine
We honor them proudly, every day
Our American Soldier...Proud and Brave
By Shannon Williams-Austill
I want to thank this soldier for their sacrifice.
And, I wish to extend my deepest regards to the loved ones they have left behind. Their service to our nation, has not gone unnoticed. They are our heroes, who paid the ultimate price for us, and that is something that every American needs to be reminded of and remember everyday.
The freedom we all have, we have because of brave young men and women who made a choice to defend and serve.
Today, let me remember your loved one with you.

COL Allgood's interventions with Soldiers continues to contribute to the greater good of the health and welfare of our nations finest. His individual clinical treatments of Soldiers and family members, his collegiality with fellow Soldiers and collegues, his leadership, and his contribution to and encouragement of research is felt now and will be for generations to come.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Brian, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Boomer Sooner Sir!! One of our Oklahoma sons will not be forgotten. Thank you sir for your efforts in the Global War on Terrorism. Your death was not in vain. There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

As a young private in the 3/75 Ranger Bn. I had the privilege of going to Ranger School with "Doc" Allgood. I may not have made it without his help and encouragement. Without that defining moment in my life I would not be an attorney and a Captain in the Army Reserves today. It is sad that such a good man who meant so much to so many is gone so young. I will always remember him and honor him as the hero he is. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

2 FEBURARY 2007, TO HONOR, TO MOURN
In my short time in Altus, Oklahoma I continue to be amazed at the talent and caliber of people that the military has brought to this town. I meet people who have only been on Altus Air Force Base when there was an Air Show, but the reason they live in this town is because of that base. Grandfather came here during WW II and married a local girl. Dad was here during Vietnam and he too, met the love of his life in Altus and stayed. Then there was the military family that moved here having never been in south west Oklahoma, but when it came time to retire from the Air Force they elected to stay. There are second, third and even fourth generation Altusions who live their life in Altus because the military originally brought their family into Jackson Country. These folks got on with their civilian lives and prospered in the community. These Altus families started out as imported new citizens, courtesy of the military, who over the generations have become part of the backbone of the community. Altus has also been an exporter of talented members to our Armed Forces. Men and women whose families were local civilians and who rose to the demand of our Nation in time of conflict. On 2 February 2007 we honored one Altus veteran and we mourned another. WW II, Army-Air Force Captain Bertram “Bert” E. Cole Jr. an Altus High School graduate & former Altus Junior College student was inducted into the Alumni Hall of Fame at Western Oklahoma State College. But Captain Cole almost did not make the ceremony. He was shot down over Yugoslavia in 1944 while flying on a bombing raid, attacking German oil fields. He spent four and a half months on the run from the Germans before escaping to Italy and returning home safely to Oklahoma. He came back to Altus, finished his college education and gave back to his community. There were four generations of Coles at the awards dinner, many still living and prospering in Altus. Sadly on 2 February 2007, while one Altus citizen and his family were being honored another Altus family was saying their final goodbyes to a career Army veteran killed in defense of his country. Colonel Brian Allgood, MD was killed in Iraq when the Blackhawk helicopter he was flying in was shot down with all souls lost. He was at the time of his death, the senior US Army medical officer in Iraq. Brian Allgood’s grandfather was Dr. E.J. Allgood. He was a prominent physician in Altus, who served the community into his 90s. His three sons all left Altus to serve their country in the military. His son Dr. Richard Allgood is in medical practice in Lawton, OK. E.J.’s son’s, Lt. Col. Ron Allgood, US Air Force Retired, lives in Altus and Col. Gerald Allgood, US Army Retired, lives in Colorado Springs. Gerald Allgood, is
Brian Allgood’s father. There are three generations of physicians in the family. Col. Brian Allgood was born in Germany while his father was stationed there with the Army, but Altus was always his home town. Brian’s family returned to Altus to see his grandparents, whenever Army leave allowed. Brian Allgood was a US Military Academy (West Point) graduate, and when the Army decided to send him to medical school he returned to Oklahoma for that education. Reading information on West Point web-sites about Brian Allgood, you come to understand that his fellow classmates knew right away Brian was from Oklahoma. Four years at West Point was not going to change his Oklahoma outlook on life. Brian’s wife is a fellow West Point graduate and a retired Army Colonel. This Altus family has given a lot to our country, through both medicine and the military. And now the Allgood family has given the ultimate sacrifice to their Nation, they have given the life of a son in its defense. My wife the Colonel was in Washington DC the same week of Col. Allgood’s memorial in Colorado Springs. She was attending a military medical conference. Both, the US Army and Iraqi Armed Forces, Surgeon Generals spoke at the conference and honored Col. Allgood. These two Generals had worked with Col. Brian Allgood and knew first hand of his efforts to help the wounded and suffering of American GIs and Iraqis. We must honor our combat veterans who are still with us and we must always remember those who never will come home. Thank you Captain Bert Cole for your service and God bless you and your family Colonel Brian Allgood.

With heartfelt sympathy for the family of Brian Allgood.I met Brian on a number of occasions when he was an Orthopedic resident at BAMC and once when he was a BN commander at FSH. On every occasion he was a straightforward and thoroughly engaged officer, whom I respected. His great and good qualities made most of the rest of us seem but pikers. I hope that his family knows how much he will be missed by a wide circle of not just his friends, but hundreds, if not thousands of fellow soldiers.

I never met COL Allgood, but he was not too busy to correspond via email with me; I had contacted him after reading his mission statement at Keller.I have had that document pinned over my desk ever afterwards, as a continuing inspiration. (I had done all the photo art at Walter Reed, and was sending out CDs of greeting cards I did with Army Chief of Chaplains, wanted him to have it.) I had been hoping HFPA would ask us to go to Korea, so I could work with him; instead we went to Landstuhl.
Our country has lost a hero, Army medicine has lost a leader, and the human race has lost an example to us all. He will be in my prayers.

I served with Col. then Cpt. Allgood at the 3d Rgr Bn, Ft. Benning, Ga. in the late 80's. I will never forget when Cpt. now General Wiercinski tasked me to obtain Brian's signature on an NCOER, due to Brian being a rater. I obtained Brian's signature just as he stepped off a bus in the first phase of Ranger School. Brian did not seem too happy to see me under the circumstances but nonetheless, kept his professionalism and humor by calmly stating, "I hope you have a pen Roberts." Col. Allgood also repaired my cut cornea during a training mission in Panama. He ordered me to wear a patch on the injured eye until it healed. I thought I would pull a fast one on him, so I removed the patch and went to chow. Low and behold, who do you think came out of nowhere in the chow hall and stated, "Sgt. Roberts, soon to be Specialist Roberts if you do not put the patch back on your eye I ordered you to wear. Where is it? Put it back on your eye and keep it on, or I am going to have you wear a patch over both your eyes and assign you to bed rest." My reply was of course, "Hooah Sir." He was a very intellectual and inspirational person. Our Battalion has lost quite a few former Rangers. My old Operations Sergeant, Wesely J.K. Batalona was also taken from us in Iraq, a month after he had offered me a job at Blackwater Security. He also served with Brian. God bless you all, and realize that Brian will never be forgotten. He was top-notch, a leader, a hard charger, a Ranger....the best. We can not control the winds that blow, but can only set the sails.

To COL Allgood's family and friends,
I served with him in Korea in 2004-2005, he was my Brigade Commander and I also served with him at Womack Army Medical Center in 1996. He was the most professional officer I have ever had the privilege to serve with and he inspired me more times than I can remember. I remember the day before I took command he brought me in his office and asked me if I was scared, and I replied hestitantly "yes", I didn't know how he was going to respond but he replied "good, that means if you weren't scared than I would be worried that you would try to do everything and always worry about not failing". I appreciated his wisdom then and I will never forget his mild mannered demeanor and his caring approach. God Bless him and his family and friends and may they revel in the many memories that will forever tie them together and with him.

I knew Col. Allgood as a mentor and commanding officer of the 3/75th Ranger Bn medical section. He was our Bn. surgeon replacing Mjr. Childs. In a place where any weakness either real or perceived can cost dearly, he was always up to the task. His courtesy, professionalism, attention to detail and concern for his patients and all Rngers left in his skilled hands set the exmple for all of us to follow. The training and knowledge that he imparted to us enriched our lives . Col. Allgood had an unwaivering respect for human life and saw to it that all that were in need recieved the best care possible regardless of the situation. As a Ranger medic I was blessed to have served along side this honorable Ranger Officer, talented surgeon, true patriot and friend. I as well as all those that he interacted with have been left saddened and stunned at Col. Allgoods death. His loss is certainly the worlds loss, as a true healers hands have been stilled. His efforts in service to his nation however, will be his lasting legacy, for all of us that he trained have in turn touched lives and those that he used his talent to repair , mend and save live on due to his skill and never give up attitude.
May God grant the family of Col. Allgood comfort from this deeply tragic loss, in knowing so many live on and live better due to his efforts and teaching. May they also draw courage from the knowledge that he was a true American Patriot and embodied all that is true of the Ranger Regiment, the medical profession and all that can be good in humanity. God Bless his wife and son, his parents, family and loved ones. I am greatful and proud to have know him and will never forget him and his service to mankind and our great nation. To the Family of Col. Brian D. Allgood:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.
