When I was stationed in Fort Bragg after work we always had a good time with the rest of the motorpool. I have no clue how he could run his two miles so fast.... From generator mechanic to infintriy thats what wanted to be. He died with accomplished dreams..... And on a less serious note, he always kept Midol and a hella awesome video game when I didn't feel so well

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Colon Family know that we recently made a small donation to Homes For Heroes in honor of Pedro J. Colon US Army Sergeant. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,

Pedro, even in a short period of time you were able to make a huge impact on my life. I'll never forget my first day in the motor pool you reenlisted for your 11B contract during the height of the Iraq war. My first words to you as a uneducated and wet behind the ears private were, " reclass to 11B, don't they have huge bonuses?" You responded with I didn't do it for the money. That moment still has an impact on my life.
Till Valhalla brother.

PJ, I found out 8 months later what happened. I miss you so so so much and I hope you found peace. To his family: PJ was a great best friend and an even greater boyfriend; a great Soldier and a great Leader. He came in to the military with hardly anything......and left with everything.
You have and will always have a part of my heart. I love you.

Hello,
I represent PRAYER SHAWLS 4 FALLEN SOLDIERS (PS4FS), an organization that since October 2007 has sent over 2,800 prayer shawls to military families who have lost a loved one. We are an organization of over 240 groups from all over the country. We make every effort to reach families even when post cards are returned after they have moved. Would you kindly send me a contact email/address so that we may send a loving hand-made prayer shawl to the family? Thank you!

Dear family of Sgt. Pedro J. Colon,
We want to say thank you. We understand that no words can be adequate for your sorrow. We certainly do not want to intrude upon your privacy. As Americans we want you to know that we deeply appreciate the ultimate sacrifice your loved one has made for all of us. We also would like for you to be aware that with this letter comes our special concern and prayers for you. We are all safer because young men and women who love their country, and know the value of a free nation, are willing to put themselves in harms way, and lay down their lives to keep this nation free and safe for all of us.
Your sacrifice is also very great. We know that we can give little comfort; however, the knowledge that your loved one did not die in vain, but died in the service of our country, gives each of us a noble example of the value of life, and the responsibility of freedom. We hope this will bring pride and comfort to you.
We at Gethsemane Church believe that there is purpose to life. We send this letter with our deepest appreciation for the greatest of sacrifices, you and your loved one have given to this country. We know it is not enough, but please allow us to assure you that your loved one is not forgotten.
Very Sincerely
Frank G. Noyes

It's hard to put into words what I want to say. Sgt. Harris said it best when he said we missed you, because we do. I've lost other friends here in Iraq as well and I'm still speechless. True friends are hard to find, I'm glad you were my friend.

SSG Pedro Colon was my team leader in Korea . After I left and was sent to First Cav in Texas he soon followed . He was assigned to B company in the same battalion (2-8 CAV 1BCT 1CD). All I can say is he was a GREAT leader and a good guy . I liked him and from what I have heard he did his job trying to gather and protect his troops 'til the end . The patrol base at Tarmiya came under attack by car bombs in the gate , as well as mortar and sniper fire , as well as an attempt to follow up with a ground assualt to push forward and overrun the outpost . I am sorry for his loved ones that have lost him . But there is a small bit of solice in that he did his job with valor and the utmost honor . I was not there so all I know are after stories , but I believe and know them to be true . In the short time I had the priveledge to know SSG Colon , I can only believe that his dedication and humanity would not let him do less than give his own life to save those of his men .

As I sit here day after day in Iraq and I watch the convoy teams go out and come back, I am so overwhelmed with sadness. I hate being here because I am so close to where you were and even though a year has past, I sit here and wish that I could have done something so you would still be here on earth with us. You are not forgotten, you are remembered everyday by so many of us, we celebrate your life and all that you are. We wear a bracelet in remembrance of you.
I miss you so much!

To Colon, and the family of Colon. First I would like to say to the family, that no matter what happened between you and your son, you should be extremely proud of whom he was.
Next I want to share what Colon meant to me. I had the distinct pleasure of being Colon's NCO while he worked in the motor pool at Fort Bragg. Colon was the type of person that wanted to do what was necessary to accomplish the mission. He had a lot of friends. I was lucky enough to be one of them. I was an 11B in the start and changed over to a 92A. Colon and I would talk about what it was like to be an Infantry soldier. That is something that I know he wanted to do. I can't take the credit, but I am glad I could help him feel good about his decision to go infantry. I had a hard time accepting what happened to him, but I feel comfort to know he died doing something he believed in. I am sure all the 18th SSG motor pool boys, AZ, Marsh, Youngbullbear, QB, Dippy, Worthington, Carson, Hamrick, Bayse, and Fuller will miss you as much as I. May God embrace you as the soldier you are. I will miss you my friend, and fellow soldier. I will always remember the way you stood up for your beliefs, and backed up other people on theirs. Let no one forget the sacrifice he gave so we can be free. Once again God Bless you, and God be with your family!

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

We are so sorry for your loss. Pedro stands as a hero in the finest traditions of the United States Army and the 1st Cavalry Division. He did this with his everyday duties and chores while offering support to his fellow soldiers. It is on top of this that he showed his courage. We too have lost a soldier. Spec. Nicholas Brown was KIA in Iraq on January 22, 2007. He loved being a soldier and loved the cameradie that came with the job. Nick was in 2/7 Cav. Sgt. Colon will always be remembered as an American hero. Please accept our prayers and sympathies during these hard times. Thank you,

"You can do it!!" was your favorite saying every morning during formation..and I'll never forget it. Your since of comradery for your fellow motorpool family showed me how sensitive and caring you really were underneath that hard shell of sarcasm. I know that you know that I'll never 4get you. I've been trying to grasp a hold of the concept of you being gone, it's hard. I'll forever keep your memory in my heart. Everytime I see the colors black and red together or any of those little "gizmos and gadgets" that you collected, I'll think of you. I miss you dearly and I'm doing what I can to let your 18th SSG (Fort Bragg) Army family know about your untimely death. They all want you to know that we miss you and love you. Well, my friend, you may not physically be here, but you will ETERNALLY be in my heart and in my memory. PJ, it has taken me some time to be able to write this to you. I will always cherish the memories that we've shared together. Especially all the get togethers that both our families had that always brought us closer. I always looked foward to them just so that I could see you. I always assumed that there would be more. Your determination, playful sarcasm, charm, and optimism were what I admired most about you. It is with the deepest sadness that I ask the family and friends of a brave young Soldier, Sgt. Pedro Colon to accept the offer of my most sincere and heart felt condolences. I hope that you know that your loss is shared and mourned by millions of Americans. Most of whom you don’t know and in all probability will never meet. We sincerely appreciate the sacrifices made by your patriot.
Freedom is not free; it is paid for by our heroes, and for those who fight for it, Freedom has a flavor the protected will never know! This young soldier made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
I know the pain parents feel when they loose a child. I lost a son 19 years ago. It is a pain that defies description. It is a pain that never goes away. It is a pain that will never end. It is a pain that is all consuming.
I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
May God Bless and keep you today, tomorrow and forever!
Rest in Peace brave soldier; you did your duty with great honor, dedication, distinction and in the highest traditions of our great country.

“Soldier”
Written to Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers
Soldiers write history…they pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever
Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away
Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go
We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light
Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray
Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.
