Sir, I bonded with you over the fact that we were both about to have our first child soon. Balian was born on 8 Mar 2007 in Schweinfurt, and you were the first to congratulate me on his birth. I learned so much from you in such a short time. You made me a better Soldier, NCO, and man for knowing you. I miss you like a brother and think of you often. Gods speed Sir

Tony,
You were a great Soldier, and a great example for all around you. You did your duty well, and you were a true leader, never hesitating to lead from the front. Not a day goes by that I don´t think about you. May God bless you and your wonderful family.

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Palermo Family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to troops in Afghanistan this week and we'll be dedicating several of these to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and the hometown of Anthony Palermo Jr. US Army Captain. We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.

Cpt. Palermo
I just want to say that a day does not go by that I don't think of you, I want to say meeting you and serving right next to you was an honor. I still remember all we talked about on our missions and our workouts and all the wisdom you passed on to myself and everyone you met. Sir you will always be remembered, and I'm sure that your son will be as good a man as you were, thanks for pushing me to be a leader and believing in me. And to his family my prayers go out to you and God keep you strong.

To the family of Tony, I knew him in IOBC. He was in my Platoon. I remember that no matter how bad things got, he could always pick up our spirits and make us laugh with his positive attitude. I am currently working on a project for the Fort Benning Commanding General in which I am creating inspirational posters to hang in classrooms to inspire students. I am making one of Tony so he will be memorialized in one of the Brigade classrooms. I am terribly sorry for your loss and the world is a sadder place without him. It's still hard for me to think about him.

To the family of Capt. Anthony Palermo:
Please know that just as your loved one remains in your hearts and minds; his sacrifice, and that of your family, remains with the people he died defending. Words cannot express the gratitude we feel for his bravery and selflessness, or the heartache we feel for your loss. God bless and keep you always.

To the Family of Cpt. Anthony Palermo. I served with Anthony during his first deployment in 2004. He came over to serve with Personnel Security Detachment for the commander. I drove for the commander. I had to talk to Cpt. Palermo and his Platoon Sgt. everyday about our missions daily. He would always ask me who, what, when, where, and why every morning for breakfast since i had the old mans ear. We always laughed and joked about it everyday. I was an old school Sgt. and i always enjoyed meeting new officers who i believed had potential for great leadership. My greatest memory of Cpt. P was when we returned from Iraq. I was sitting at the airport in Germany when i saw him and his wife and he came up to me and gave me a great big hug. We laughed and joke once again. I wish i could hear that laughter one more time. I was at his memorial in Schweinfurt. I wanted so much to say something to his pregnant wife but i was filled with so much emotion. A few days later his son was born. If he is anything like his dad then life will be good. Cpt. Palermo i will always remember you and i will always pray for your family. God bless you and God bless the U.S.A..

I met Lt Palermo on our flight to Iraq in '04. We sat and played cards with another officer. Through out the deployment I ran into him when he would come to visit his wife at the detention facility. We also ended up going to Quatar at the same time and hung out some. He was such a great guy. My heart goes out to his wife and son. I was stunned to hear of his death when I was in Baghdad. I'm so sorry for your loss.

I served with 2nd Lt Palermo in his first tour in Iraq, I was one of his soldiers. For me Lt Palermo was a great soldier, One of the many memories that I remember was when I had a Black Scorpion and he found one and we put them to fight. I called mine BLACKY and he called his Whitie, we took some videos of the fight as well. Later that year we went to Monsul and he was recording the fights between dismounts and the mounted everyone was laughting. I still have the video where he is narrating the fight.. Sir God Bless your soul and your family. You will always be remember.

To the family and friends of Anthony.
Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers today.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Anthony, but he is my hero.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

“Soldier”
Written to Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers

Soldiers write history…they pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still

We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever

Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away

Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go

We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light

Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray

Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound

Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

It just occurred to me that Anthony was a summer camp employee at Norwich during the summer of 2001. He gave me a ride early one morning to the train station in Montpelier. During the car ride I noticed he was never going a mile an hour over the speed limit in his blue Kia; I asked why this was and he said his license was suspended or something along those lines. He was an incredibly good leader as a counselor, and had our respect from the get-go.

My sympathy to Anthony's family. It has come to me as a shock of his sacrifice, I cannot begin to imagine your feelings during this time. Essayons.

To Tony -

There are no words that express what I am thinking. I need to thank you for all that you did for me. I never told you that your dedication, your commitment to excellence is what drove me to success in my own life. Watching you taught me how to acheive all of the things I want and need in life. Tony you are a mentor, role model, and amazing friend. I only wish I had told you this sooner. You will be missed!

To the Palermo/ Melendez family -

I can not pretend to understand your pain - and "I am sorry" does not seem powerful enough. I am here if any of you need a shoulder to cry on, ears to listen, or a hand to help out.

I think of you often
and make no outward show,
But what it means to lose you,
no one will ever know
You wished no one farewell,
not even said good-bye,
You were gone before I knew it,
and only God knows why.
You are not forgotten
nor will you ever be,
As long as life and memories last,
I will remember thee.
To some you may be forgotten,
to others a part of the past,
But to me who loved you dearly,
your memories will always last.
Nothing can be more beautiful
than the memories I have of you.
To me, you were someone special,
God must have thought so too!
If tears could build a staircase
and memories a lane,
I would walk all the way to Heaven,
and bring you back again.

As you sit at your seat in Heaven remember that you are loved Anthony Palermo. Your contribution to the lives of the people around you are overwhelming!

There are no other words to describe the swelling in my chest each time I sit down here to write. I dont know how to put into words what needs to be said.

Thank you. Thank you to Maria and Johnnie for raising a soldier that has sacrificed his life so that we are free, Thank you to everyone in the Palermo/Melendez family for being an influence in such a monumental life.

Though Tony's life was cut short he made every minute count. That is only proven by the excerps left in this tribute. Tony has influenced so many lives!

Most importantly - Thank you CPT. Anthony Palermo. THank you for giving your life so that I may live mine. Thank you for giving everything so that I have to give nothing. Thank you for doing the job that I was not able to do.

Tony - I will never forget. I will make sure that no one near me forgets, that everyday soldiers like you are giving their lives so that we may be free.

I will remember you in my thoughts and prayers forever.

To Tony's young son - When you are old enough to understand the caliber of what your father did for his country you will feel such imense pride that you will want to burst. Your dad is a truly amazing person. One full of love, and compassion - one that truly touched many lives. When you are ready you will come to understand the gift that was lost on that dreadful Friday in Iraq.

My thoughts and prayers to the entire family.

I am a Norwich Alumni currently deployed to Afghanistan. I never really got to know Anthony because I missed him by a semester but I definitely knew who he was. I know he was a great man and an outstanding soldier. He made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of something we all love. He is the reason I am proud to be an army officer and to carry on what he believed in. The best way I can pay him respect is to value why his sacrifice was made, and strive to be as good of an officer as he was. He will never be forgotten.

My heart broke when I read that Anthony had been killed. My memories of CPT Palermo were as 2LT Palermo when he took over command of 2nd Platoon of Bravo Company 1-18. He was young, funny and I will always remember his good natured taunting of SFC Almario. He was a great guy, and my heart and thoughts go out to his family, as well as to the Vanguards that he served with. God be with you.

You raised a wonderful young man, of whom you can always be very proud. Tony will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. I had the priviledge to meet Tony during his time at Norwich. John 15:13 says that "No greater love is that of a man to lay down his life for another" how comforting to know that our heavenly father thru his son JESUS CHRIST has given the hope and promise that we will see CPT Palermo one day again, that he is safe under the Lord's wings for ever. My prayer is not for him anymore, for I constantly present all soldiers to the Lord, but especially our VANGUARDS, no, my prayer is forever for Kristy and baby Palermo, the very special gift in her life to love her and keep her company, for her to hug and love and cherish as a gift of the love that Kristy and CPT Palermo shared for ever, that is my hope and trust for her to have peace and joy in the new life of her son .

May the Lord grant you perfect peace and comfort in his loving arms for ever!

With much of love and respect!!

I served with Cpt.Palermo with the Vanguards in Baghdad, Iraq. This soldier was one of the finest warriors I have ever served with. He was a true friend, professional and Gentleman.I loved him, respected him and revered him. Words cannot tell his family how much he will be missed by his fellow warriors, I am so sorry this has happened. Tony was a Rock and I am so fortunate to have known him and to be able to have called him my Friend. God Bless Tony Palermo and his wife and soon to be borne beautiful child. My deepest sympathy.Truelly.

Father we entrust our brother Anthony to your mercy. You loved him greatly in this life: now that he is freed from all its cares, give him happiness and peace forever. Welcome him now into paradise where there will be no more sorrow, no more weeping or pain, but only peace and joy with Jesus your Son, and the Holy Spirit forever and ever.
May God hold Anthony in the palm of His hand. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. My deepest sympathy.

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

Please know how Deeply Sorry I am, for the loss of
this Brave Young Soldier, Capt. Anthony Palermo,

As a parent, who has lost a daughter suddenly,
and as a sister, who has lost a brother to war,
I am aware of the deep and devastating pain
that you are experiencing.
The overwhelming heartache, seems to surface
through our shock, as the time passes.
Please hang on to your Faith and know that you will get through this.
Ever so softly and slowly, time does heal.

May Anthony Rest Safely, in the Loving Care of God
and know that he Will Never Be Forgotten.
I pray that the Peace of God will be with the Palermo family.
I am the sister, of such a Young Hero, who made the Ultimate Sacrifice in Vietnam, many years ago.

"Cast thy burden upon the Lord,
and He shall sustain thee."
~ Psalm 55:22 ~

I sincerely hope that you can feel the thoughts of caring and support that surround you today and in the days ahead, as this Country Mourns with you, for Someone Very Precious to you, Who Is A Hero to all of us.

It is with the deepest sadness that I ask the family and friends of this brave young Soldier to accept the offer of my most sincere and heart felt condolences. I hope that you know that your loss is shared and mourned by millions of Americans. Most of whom you don’t know and in all probability will never meet. We sincerely appreciate the sacrifices made by your patriot.

Freedom is not free; it is paid for by our heroes, and for those who fight for it, Freedom has a flavor the protected will never know! This soldier made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

I know the pain parents feel when they loose a child. I lost a son 19 years ago. It is a pain that defies description. It is a pain that never goes away. It is a pain that will never end. It is a pain that is all consuming.

I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

May God Bless and keep you today, tomorrow and forever!

Rest in Peace brave soldier; you did your duty with great honor, dedication, distinction and in the highest traditions of our great country.
