Hey brother, today marks 11 years. I still can't believe it. I know you're in a better place and I'm sure raising hell! I'll never forget all the times we had. From our stupid fights to you living with me. It was a good time none the less! I lobe you and will always miss you brother!

To the family of Cpl. Cody Putman:
Please know that just as your loved one remains in your hearts and minds; his sacrifice, and that of your family, remains with the people he died defending. Words cannot express the gratitude we feel for his bravery and selflessness, or the heartache we feel for your loss. God bless and keep you always.

Today in my speech class there was a retired Army veteran and a Navy Reserve who gave their speeches about the military and their family. When I heard these speeches, I thought of you. Everytime I think of you, I think of your smile. You definitely knew how to make us all smile. I visited your gravesite after class with my son and he asked why God let you die. I told him I wasn't sure, I really didn't know what else to tell him. I miss you Cody!

why does god choose take the best people, the ones who have such a bright future, the ones who have such a loving family? i can't help but ask myself that question nearly every day...

words cannot begin to express how i feel being here while you're up in heaven. i just can't even fathom what has happened, i hate to even think about it. it's been nearly two years and i still do not have closure, i'm not really sure that i ever will.

i awaken every day thinking that you're still here and whenever the phone rings, i always think you're on the other end ready to tell me what new and exciting things you've had the oppritunity to do...but no such day will come. i'm still so angry with what has happened, but i know for me to move on, i must accept it and live my life for what you were cut so short of. the decisions i make have affected me differently since that day...that one single day has changed so many lives forever.

i miss you cody, that's all i can think to say. you've made so many people happy in the short time that you were here and i'm so very fortunate to be one of them.

my dear friend, the time has come where i need to accept the fact that your life has ended and that you're in an even better place than you were before. there have been many tears shed and much laughter had for you, unfortunetly i feel as though i've given you more tears than i have smiles and laughter.

i'm going to make it today and tomorrow, but i must say goodbye to you cody. i feel as though i never properly said that to you and now is the time. i love you and your family dearly and i miss you more than i could ever describe. please watch over us and save me a seat up there.

goodbye my friend, forever rest in peace.

Freedom isn’t free just ask me, I personally know the cost

Cody is one of so many who have paid the ultimate price

He had courage, pride, and strength like I’d never seen before

I’d pray for he and his buddies each day before I walked out the door

Please guide and protect them on their missions today

And please dear Lord if someone must go, please take me away

I want him to come back home for his family and baby girl

As I prayed this prayer his company prepared for a three month extended tour

But it wasn’t to be the way that I prayed, the Lord had his own plans that day

I’ll never forget the knock on the door and what the soldiers had to say

Freedom isn’t free just ask me, I’ve cried a million tears

The memories of his life, will have to last for years

We have trophies, pictures and so many letters to read

He told me many times of his love for his brother and sister and me

The Army and others sent us many things to help us cope with our loss

And we are filled with pride as we read of the respect he received from his special boss

They taught him respect and honor and to reach for so much more

He was with an elite group of men who were opening many doors

Freedom isn’t free just ask me, along with so many others

You’ll never take away the pride or the pain of the many Gold Star Mothers

We didn’t ask to be part of this group and would rather not be

But this now is our new responsibility

Our purpose will be to carry on the job that our soldiers began

To teach others the importance of their sacrifice as often as we can

Freedom isn’t free just ask me and I’ll tell you many stories

And I will tell them well and often of your sacrifice and glories.

Not a day goes by that you are not in my thoughts. I miss you more that I can express. Mom

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your hero, Cpl Cody Putman. America has lost one of her heroes and he will never be forgotten. I thank Cody for his service to our country. You and your family will remain in my prayers. This is a poem I have written to honor our fallen and their families.
Terri -Very Proud Aunt to LCpl. Chase, United States Marine

“The Land of the Free” by Terri Myers

My heart is so heavy, it’s been stricken with grief;
It is mourning the loss of your son, his life so brief.
He was fighting for the country, which he did love;
Now standing guard at the gates in heaven above.

My thanks I give to your family, especially your son;
The gift he has given, all the things he has done.
He fought for freedom, this he did for you and me;
He wanted to keep our country “the land of the free”.

My heart is so heavy, it’s been stricken with grief;
Mourning the loss of your husband, your marriage too brief;
He was fighting for the country, which he did love;
Now standing guard at the gates in heaven above.

My thanks to you and your husband, this I do give;
The gift he has given, to better the life that we live.
He fought for freedom, this he did for you and me;
He wanted to keep our country “the land of the free”.

My hearts is so heavy, it’s stricken with grief;
It’s mourning the loss of a hero, his life so brief.
He was fighting for the country, which he did love;
Now standing guard at the gates in heaven above.

My thanks to this hero, his sacrifice I’ll never forget;
The gift he has given, to people he has never even met.
He fought for freedom, this he did for you and me;
He wanted to keep our country “the land of the free”.

My heart is so heavy, it’s stricken with grief;
So many heroes we’ve lost, their lives too brief.
They were fighting for the country, which they did love;
Now standing guard at the gates in heaven above.

My thanks to these heroes, they have stood so tall;
The gift they have given, they have given their all.
They have fought for freedom, this they did for you and me;
They wanted to keep our country “the land of the free”.

My deepest condolences to the family and friends of Cpl. Cody A. Putnam. My heart aches for you, and you will remain in my thoughts and prayers. I pray that the deep hurt you feel can be in some part be eased by the feeling of great pride for Codys’ valor and deep sense of patriotism. He will always be remembered as an American Hero by my family and we will never forget the great sacrifice made by your family.

In spite of all that happened here in New York City that dark Tuesday morning nearly six years ago, millions continue to live and work here without fear, because of our awesome U.S. Military. We still stand tall and proud here today, thanks to wonderful people such as your Cody.

To Cody I would say you have made the ultimate sacrifice and did so willingly and without hesitation. Thank you so very much for defending my freedoms. It means so much to me, to the people of NYC and to the entire nation. Thank you for your bravery and sacrifice in the service of the country that I love so very much.

John 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

May God be with you until we all meet a Jesus’ feet.

I don't pretend to know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

“Soldier”
Written to Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers

Soldiers write history…they pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still

We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever

Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away

Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go

We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light

Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray

Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound

Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

Please know how Deeply Sorry I am, for the loss of
this Brave Young Soldier, Cpl. Cody A. Putnam,

As a parent, who has lost a daughter suddenly,
and as a sister, who has lost a brother to war,
I am aware of the deep and devastating pain
that you are experiencing.
The overwhelming heartache, seems to surface
through our shock, as the time passes.
Please hang on to your Faith and know that you will get through this.
Ever so softly and slowly, time does heal.

May Cody Rest Safely, in the Loving Care of God
and know that he Will Never Be Forgotten.
I pray that the Peace of God will be with the Putnam family.
I am the sister, of such a Young Hero, who made the Ultimate Sacrifice in Vietnam, many years ago.

"Cast thy burden upon the Lord,
and He shall sustain thee."
~ Psalm 55:22 ~

I sincerely hope that you can feel the thoughts of caring and support that surround you today and in the days ahead, as this Country Mourns with you, for Someone Very Precious to you, Who Is A Hero to all of us.

I am so sorry to hear about another fallen! I know there are no words that I can say to ease your pain! The loss of a child is something that is the most difficult thing to bare. We can only pray that one day we will be together again. I was told that if you stretch a piece of string a mile long and line that string with beads, the beads would resemble eternity. Life here on earth is equal to “only one bead”. We have only a short time here compared to the time we will spend in eternity with our loved ones. The only thing I can say is let faith keep you grounded in your life and hold on to your loved ones! This will help you through! This is what helps me get through my days, I too have lost. My son entered into the Heavens to be with our Lord!
God Bless Your Family!

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.
