Kenneth E. Locker Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 24, 2007.
When Kenneth E. Locker Jr. was home in January on leave, he wanted to be sure his father understood why he was serving. "He said, ''Dad, do you know why I''m over there?''" Ken Locker Sr. said. ''"I''m over there for the children, that they might have a safer world to live in.''" Locker, 28, of Wakefield, Neb., was killed April 23 in a suicide car bombing in As Sadah. He was assigned to Fort Bragg. Locker was injured in Iraq last fall by a land mine, his father said, and was awarded a Purple Heart. The soldier had two or three pieces of shrapnel in his neck, and his hearing was damaged in the attack. Locker, an outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing and his family, graduated from high school in 1997, enlisting in the Army while he was still in high school, his father said. "I was rather happy, because his grades were low until he enlisted in the Army, and then his grades shot up," Ken Locker Sr. said. He spent three years in the service, then did two more with the National Guard before re-enlisting in the Army He also is survived by two sons, Austin and Dustin.

Hello,
We realize that we are very late to express our deepest condolences, but we wanted to let your family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and hometown of Kenneth E. Locker Jr. US Army Staff Sergeant.

We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families and friends and others who support our mission.

We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers today.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Kenneth, but I am remembering on
this day he gave his all.
He is my hero.

Sincerely,

To the parents and family of Staff Sgt. Kenneth E. Locker. Please accept my deepest sympathy for your loss. There are no words to ease your pain, but we can draw strength from each other in the difficult days ahead. Please know that you will be in my thoughts and prayers through this holiday time and in the coming year. I believe our soldiers are in heaven, watching over us, guiding us, and keeping us safe. My son, SGT Jacob S. Schmuecker, KIA 7-21-07, Balad, Iraq, is also one of those soldiers.

Thank you for the sacrifice made by Staff Sgt Locker and the sacrifice made by everyone who loves and misses him! May God bless all of you!!

August 6, 2007

I don't pretend to know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

The Locker Family,
Ken was a neighbor of mine in Spring Lake, NC. He was great man with a heart of gold that took me in as a close friend when I first moved to the area. We both confided in each other through the good and the bad. There are a lot of memories from the few months that we knew each other that will be cherished. Ken was one of a kind and will be deeply missed. He will be in my thoughts and prayers forever. God Bless him, his family and all the soldiers who have served and are currently serving our country.

Locker Family,
I remember Kenny well. I used to play at your house when I would visit my grandparents Anson and Mae two doors down. My Mom told me the saddening news of him passing on. I am so proud to be a member of his sister service, the Air Force, and proud to know he served his country to great dignity. Every day I am saddened to hear of another loss, and pray for an end. My thoughts and prayers are with you, and all of our members fighting on the ground overseas.
Respectfully yours,

“Soldier”
Written to Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers

Soldiers write history…they pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still

We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever

Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away

Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go

We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light

Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray

Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound

Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

I served with SSG Locker when he was a young airborne trooper. He was always respectful and very motivated. Both honerable traits for a soldier. He is missed and loved. May God take in this warrior with open arms.

God Bless Legacy.com for allowing us to honor these heros.

We can't imagine what you have been going through since being notified of the death of your young Warrior. The Military and families all over the USA and world are grieving with you and praying for you. What a very brave individual you have in your family that would give up a life for their homeland and its people so they can remain free. Your Freedom Fighter has served the Country above and beyond the call of duty, let no one ever tell you different. With the mission now completed your Warrior has been redeployed to Heaven to sit on the right hand of the Supreme Commander and Chief. The Father above has Kenneth in his arms and will give him peace as well as eventually easing your pain and suffering. God speed to you and Staff Sgt. Kenneth E. Locker, our HERO. We are so proud of them that are willing to sacrifice for this great Nation, THANK YOU.

My thoughts and prayers go out to my fellow soldier's family and friends as my husband and I are amongst them. We met SSG Locker in Nebraska while attending a military training course together. At the time he was in the National Guard in January of 2003. It feels like so long ago. My husband and I also served in Iraq in the first rotation in April of 2003. We knew of the deployment while in Nebraska. I tried to keep in touch with SSG Locker to talk about our experiences and never heard a response, but not a day has gone by that I haven't thought about him. I wish that I would've been able to hear from him but it's okay because I knew way back then what kind of guy he was and I'm sure he knew that he was loved and admired by friends and peers. My husband and I are very honored to have served with him and that we knew what kind of guy and soldier he was even in a short time! Bless you and Bless the soldier's and service members who pay the ultimate sacrifice for the country and families!

Please know how Deeply Sorry I am, for the loss of
this Brave Young Soldier, Staff Sgt. Kenneth E. Locker,

As a parent, who has lost a daughter suddenly,
and as a sister, who has lost a brother to war,
I am aware of the deep and devastating pain
that you are experiencing.
The overwhelming heartache, seems to surface
through our shock, as the time passes.
Please hang on to your Faith and know that you will get through this. Ever so softly and slowly, time does heal.

May Kenneth Rest Safely, in the Loving Care of God
and know that he Will Never Be Forgotten.
I pray that the Peace of God will be with the Locker family.
I am the sister, of such a Young Hero, who made the Ultimate Sacrifice in Vietnam, many years ago.

"Cast thy burden upon the Lord,
and He shall sustain thee."
~ Psalm 55:22 ~

I sincerely hope that you can feel the thoughts of caring and support that surround you today and in the days ahead, as this Country Mourns with you, for Someone Very Precious to you, Who Is A Hero to all of us.
You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Know in your heart that you are a true hero and will never be forgotten. All gave some, some gave all. Rest in peace. You will be missed by everyone’s life you have touched.

To the family, as the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life’s routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family, friends, and all Americans for the sacrifice of one of your family members for our freedom. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. May you find comfort in the loving embrace of our Heavenly Father.

you are my hero
may god keep you in his arms forever.

April 24, 2007

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.
