I met MSG at Camp Edgars. A few of us were around a fire pit, with Congas, Clave, y Bongo. On this one Thursday night as we were playing, many other service members would wonder right into our location, rank did not matter for it was the music of our culture that brought us together. We had so much fun. You told me you went to Lane Tech and I went to Clemente, of all places where we could meet another Boriqua from the hood. Oh what a night that was. A week later I found out what happened to SGM. I always think of you and I am a better person.

That night while we were laughing and singing to Pedro Navaja, we made plans to start a salsa band and LtCol Ortiz, gave us the go ahead. We started the first Salsa club and salsa band at ISAF HQ. 2007.

I wear your bracelet and think of you often.

Oye Wil, Another year has passed and you not being still hurts!!! I was sitting in on a promtion board with Sam (1SG Paris) and he leaned over to me and whispered, asking me if I remember what happened on 6 May? And I began to tear up and I was next board member to ask questions to this young "hispanic" male Soldier. I could not help but to see a little of you in him. In that he could not stop smiling regardless of the situation that he was facing! And that reminded me so much of you - ALWAYS SMILING, not matter what! Afterwards, all the many memories of all the good times back at Leavenworth, in Alpha Co., in the wings, playing jokes with the grease pencil or doing the frozen BDU cap in the guard-cage fridge, spending time at Kuilan's! All those training days when you could make those long days fun & humorous!!! You will always be loved & remembered by the many that you touched!!!

Asta la proxima, Papo!

Another year has passed since the passing of Wil. I'm back in Afghanistan just a stone's throw away from where he was stolen from us and a day doesn't go by that I don't think of him. I'll never forget Wil and will ALWAYS cherish his friendship and the good times.

May 7, 2010

I was honored to have known MSG Sabalu in Afghanistan. Whenever I was back in Kabul at Camp Eggers, I would see him, always w/ a smile and a kind word. He arrived in country 3 weeks after our group. I saw him on the afternoon of the 5th of May; we were excited; our group was to leave May 6th (my birthday...), and he said, "I can't wait for you to leave; I'll be leaving 3 weeks later!" We didn't leave on the 6th; but that afternoon we got the news he had died along w/ the COL and the 2 others wounded.
I won't forget the kindness of your brother, your friend. His smile will always be remembed. As will his talk of family and back home.
Be proud and please know he did serve proudly and honorably.
V/r,
Theresa A. Reese

Dear family of Master Sgt. Wilberto Sabalu,

We want to say thank you. We understand that no words can be adequate for your sorrow. We certainly do not want to intrude upon your privacy. As Americans we want you to know that we deeply appreciate the ultimate sacrifice your loved one has made for all of us. We also would like for you to be aware that with this letter comes our special concern and prayers for you. We are all safer because young men and women who love their country, and know the value of a free nation, are willing to put themselves in harms way, and lay down their lives to keep this nation free and safe for all of us.
Your sacrifice is also very great. We know that we can give little comfort; however, the knowledge that your loved one did not die in vain, but died in the service of our country, gives each of us a noble example of the value of life, and the responsibility of freedom. We hope this will bring pride and comfort to you.
We at Gethsemane Church believe that there is purpose to life. We send this letter with our deepest appreciation for the greatest of sacrifices, you and your loved one have given to this country. We know it is not enough, but please allow us to assure you that your loved one is not forgotten.

Very Sincerely

Frank G. Noyes

Wil,
I just found this website hermano. I miss you my brother. Last month was a little tough for me. I feel your friendship and your strength with me everyday. Thanks for always believing in me and for being my friend. You have my friendship always.

Nadia, Josh...your daddy loved you so very much. He had your pictures all over his wall in his room and talked about you all of the time. I know he's looking down upon you two with that warm smile and watching you every minute of everyday. I know he's very proud of both of you.

Amy, you were his everything. You were his compass that gave his life direction. He was grateful to have you as his wife and was so in love with you. We used to sit and talk just about every night for hours on end it seemed, laughing at the stories. He couldn't have had a more perfect family than he had in you, Josh and Nadia.

God Bless and all my best to you always.

Will,
Papo - I will miss you and continue to miss you everyday! But in my heart I know that we will see each other again! I found this web page, as I felt you pull on my heart, like the many other Soldiers and family you have touched! I began thinking of the times at the DB and of the fun times playing softball. Of the laughter we all shared at Angel & Mrs. Maria's house! You had this presence that drew good people around you! That "Good-Hearted Spirit" of yours always affected others and more so your Soldiers!

Amy, everday I include you, Nadia & Josh in my prayers! I will continue to pray that God brings Peace & Understanding to you, Nadia & Josh and that he cintinues to protect your family. I believe in my heart that he will never be forgotten be the many of those he touched! He was a GOOD MAN, a GOOD HUSBAND, a AWESOME FATHER, and God has a place for MEN like him right by his side!

Papo, asta la proxima vez, cuando Dios que me llama para ir a la casa! Te Amo Hermano!

I met Wil in 1999 at MPI school in Fort Mcclellan, AL. I have good memories of him smiling and joking. Joking quite often I might add. He was a Sgt then and so was I. I will never forget the hilarious prank they pulled on me while I was sleeping in the next room. I thought they were viciously assaulting someone, and the next morning it was so funny when they saw my face as I refused to talk about what I had thought they had done. They had set me up for the prank the whole night. We also dressed up in toga sheets for our class photo. Wil Was a great guy and when I saw his picture today I immediately remembered him from almost 9 years ago. That should exactly say what type of impression he left on me.

I wish I could put into words how hard this is for me to accept. Wil was that person and leader you'd follow anywhere. Amy, your USDB family is still here for you and the kids, active, retired or civilian. I wanted to speak to you at the memorial but didn't know what to say. I'll say now that you husband is loved, respected, and missed by us all. Thank you so much for being the family that allowed the man to be all that he was. God Bless.

My deepest and most heartfelt sympathy to the family of Wil Sabalu. Thanks for your Soldier's Courage, Service and Dedication to our Country and Freedom.
The price he and his family have paid, will never be forgotten.
In the days to come if you find yourself feeling like you can‘t go on , recall the years and days you were blessed by his presence, this is the one thing that cannot be taken away from you are your memories, may you find comfort there and may God’s Peace strengthen you through the difficult days ahead and the emptiness in your hearts!
I am the Sister of a hero, who made the Ultimate Sacrifice in 2005 in Taji, Iraq and time does make it hurt less.

I never work with MSGT Sabalu, but I wish I did. We went through CRC at Ft Bennig Ga before deploying and that is where I met him. I remembered him always having that certain swag that all confident NCOs should have. That swag was the swag of confidence, professionalism and I'm the "it" factor and I said to myself, when I'm Sergeant First Class I want to carry that same swag. It hurt my heart to find his name on the Fallen Heroes list. To the family of this great stellar Non-commissioned officer, you have my deepest sympathy. His death is a tremendous lost to the entire Armed Forces. But I know Big Serge is leading troops in another army and God is so proud of him, because through it all, he never lost his swagged.

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

August 22, 2007

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!
