Just talked anout you the other day, all the Gimlets online remembering what a great Soldier you were and how we wished you were still with us. I still cannot believe your gone, we had our ups and downs, but we became great friends always talking about the new parts you ordered online and couldnt wait to go home on leave to install them. From Hawaii, to Thailand, to Iraq and back, you will always be remembered as my brother, see you on the other side.

Bro I will never forget our ride together...Kuwait to Kirkuk! It's a long ride in the middle of a war. I hear your voice every once and a while you said "I got your back man...drop him" that's not a thing many men share together. That granade joke we played on Snow was funniest thing I've ever seen! We all miss you brother. I'm sad you're gone, but I know it's better where you're at.

My name is Danielia and i live in Montana...my family and I hosted a veteran this weekend who is walking 4,300 miles and placing a flag every single mile for each soldier that has died in Iraq. On Sat., we helped him place a flag...that flag was for Daniel. Daniel has a flag at mile marker #36 in between Hamilton, and Darby Montana...a beautiful spot. To Daniel's family and friends....he has touched our lives forever. If anyone would like a picture of this moment and his flag...please email me at [email protected]. Also, check out ProjectAmericaRun.com for what the amazing project one man is doing to show his respect for those that have died in Iraq. As Jon Welsh just wrote...the world misses you Daniel...even though we never got to meet you.

To the Family of SSG Daniel Newsome,
I served with Dan at Fort Benning. He used to take me to Atlanta all the time to visit my girlfriend. I can say that he is the reason I found the love of my life. He was a awesome friend that can not be replaced. There are not enough words to explain how greatful I am for his friendship and how much he is missed.

I miss you so much, and am finally coming to terms with things. I will never forget you. I will always remember our good times, the hard times and the times we shared together. It seems like yesterday we were laughing and playing around, being adults, but acting like kids. We had so much fun together and it's hard not having you in my life to talk to and share things with. I hope your wife and son are doing well and remember you always, as I do.

God Bless Dan and your family. You have paid the ultimate sacrifice in a life that very few will ever know or understand. It is the men and women such as yourself that go before us, to protect others and pave the way for our children and families. To do something for others and to be so unselfish is something that very few will truly know why we do it. I pray for your family, having an idea of the pains they have gone through and that they will move forward remembering who you were and the great memories you left behind for them. God bless!

I have known Danny for about 8 years or so now. I just learned yesterday that he died. I happened across it on the internet. Tamara and I had been talking about the fact that I hadn't heard from him in a few months. We used to talk most every day or at least a few times a week online. I won't ever forget the good times we shared, both here and in Hawaii. You will be missed, and you will be loved, now and forever more.
May you rest in peace Nunu!

August 17, 2007

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

My heart goes out to Daniel's family, friends and fellow soldiers. I hope that the memories you have will eventually bring a smile to your face to replace all the tears that you are, now, shedding. God Bless our troops, and hopefully, soon, we can put this war behind us, but, even then Daniel will forever be in my prayers. God Bless all of you!
I wonder if Daniel's Dad was in the airforce stationed at Westover airforce base in the 1960's. Joe Drayton was good friends with this fellow that I am referring to. It is such a small world, especially when everyone comes together at a time like this, it just may be possible that this is the man, Joe was friends with.
Lean on the Lord for the strength that you need!

Dear Joanne, Eric, Karen and family, Although I never had the privilege to know Danny, only to see him once as a baby when I was home on leave, I was deeply saddened to learn of this tragedy. Please except my heartfelt sympathy for the loss of your loved one. I am greatful for the extreme sacrifice he has made in service of our country. Danny was obviously well loved and such a amiable and honorable man. May you find comfort in knowing all that he was. God bless you. Your cousin,

SSG Newsome was a good man and father, my name is SSG Freeman and I served with Dan in Iraq during the 2004-2005 deployment out of Schofield Barracks HI, my heart goes out to the family i am so sorry for your loss.

July 9, 2007

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

My heart felt sorrow at the loss of Daniel is extended to all of his family. Everyone who new him owned their own special piece of who he was. He will live in you forever. When this cloud starts to pass remember him when you do things you love or bring you joy. Live well in his memory and honor. Although I never met Daniel,I am a friend and coworker of family member Juan Cabrera. When we recieved the news at work the whole G.E.F414 Super Hornet Engine Assembly line was touched and deeply saddened at Juan's familiy loss. We didn't know Daniel but we know our Boss Juan and how proud he was of him. So this distant "family" of coworkwers have experienced our first casualty of this war. Know that you are in so many peoples prayers and thoughts, people you will never meet but truly feel the loss of this young Husband, Dad,Son & Soldier. God Bless the Newsome family,God speed to our Soldiers in harms way, & God Bless America. Thank you for serving Staff Sgt. Daniel Newsome.

To all of Dan's family: Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you. Dan was a great soldier and a fine young man. I had the pleasure of serving with him early in our careers at Fort Benning. He was one of those soldiers that made my job easy and enjoyable. He was bright, energetic, loyal, funny and dependable. To his family, please let me know if there is anything that you need or that I can do. God bless you all.

Gadz: it’s good to see that you are alive and well.

Having known Dan personally, I am honored to have been able to call him my friend. I always admired his dedication to his family and to his duty. Dan was exceptionally good at making me laugh. His sense of humor will be the characteristic of Dan that I miss the most. I know in my heart that Dan is up in Heaven looking down on his family during this difficult time. I will miss Dan dearly. God's speed.

Words can not express the pain and sadness that is being felt by so many people. But mostly by Staff Sgt Newsome family. I did not have the honor of meeting Dan, but my son, Spc Joshua Stormont told me, that Dan was like a father to him, and I am very greatful that Dan was able to be there for him. As my son has said in his message, our family is here for you all no matter what the hour or day may be. You are all in our prayers and thoughts everyday. My the Lord give you the strength to carry on and may he bless you all in your time of need.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.

When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

I can't begin to explain how much the lose of Dan has impacted my life, so I know it must be almost unbearable for you all. My name is SPC. Joshua Stormont and it was my pleasure to call Dan my Squadleader, but most of all to call him my family and close friend, me and him had plans to get out and try to look into the Mass. S.W.A.T team, due to the fact that I live in RI. we are both die hard red sox fans and ne patriot fans and we had countless hour discussions about both teams, We had plans to take his boy to a few games when we got back. I just want to let you know that I was with dan untill the very end and we did everything in my power to save him. Dan was a big part of this platoon, and my squad, and he will be missed severly, things will never be the same for 2nd plt. for dan brought such a uniqe personality to us all, he was the loudest and most obnoxious person id ever met (even from mass.) but god thats why i loved him, he always had us laughing even in the hardest of times i hope that you pain and suffering will be eased as soon as possible my the lord be with you and you family but mostly to his son.. I know it must be hard to grow without a father but just know that he was a hero, he had alot of friends and was loved by many, and he will always remain in my heart and the hearts of everyone here in A co. 1-8 Cav 2nd Plt. Outlaws..... if anything is needed my family is right around the corner and we will not hesitate to lend a hand no matter what the time is, and if some day its ok with you, i would like to take dans boy to a red sox game, i feel its the least i can do for him... my god be with you and your family

We can't imagine what you have been going through since being notified of the death of your young Warrior. The Military and families all over the USA and world are grieving with you and praying for you. What a very brave individual you have in your family that would give up a life for their homeland and its people so they can remain free. Your Freedom Fighter has served the Country above and beyond the call of duty, let no one ever tell you different. With the mission now completed your Warrior has been redeployed to Heaven to sit on the right hand of the Supreme Commander and Chief. The Father above has Daniel in his arms and will give him peace as well as eventually easing your pain and suffering. God speed to you and Staff Sgt. Daniel A. Newsome, our HERO. We are so proud of them that are willing to sacrifice for this great Nation, THANK YOU.

To the family of Dan Newsome, I just want to let you know how deeply sorry I am for your loss, Dan, (nu nu) as we called him was a friend of mine during our time together at Fort Benning. He was my roommate for a short time, and I have some fond memories of him. I was so very saddened to hear of his loss today, and my heart goes out to all of your family. It is a sad day when any soldier makes the ultimate sacrifice, but even harder when you shared time together in the suck. My thoughts and prayers go out to your entire family.

To the family of Daniel, my grief for the loss of your son is felt. I know what it's like to loose your child in war as my son was killed in action too. It feels that your heart has been ripped from you and you don't understand why this happened to your child. I've felt all you will feel in the coming days and weeks and though I’m not close in relation to area, but I am very close by email. I offer any support to you and your family that I can. It's with the Grace of God that I've gotten through each day and with His healing love and comfort that I've been able to once again sleep at night and not cry each day. Believe me I do know how hard it is. May God continue to heal you and your family and contact me when and if you are ever ready, even if it's to vent or cry. In memory of my son SPC Harry (Buck) Winkler III KIA 11/12/06 Samarra, Iraq with the 2-505th PIR 82nd Airborne Div
