I had the privilege to have SGT Schmeucker as my team leader. We used to have barbeques behind our hooches and we would talk about home life. Nothing else. Hell, he gave me my first sex talk (had to be there moment) Being over a year after his death, he still pops in my head a time or two. Especially, when I do something he had help me perfect like my pool skills. I just want to thank his wife for all the support you gave him while he served over there. It was because of her and his kids, SGT Schmuecker always had a smile on his face and never talked negatively. I miss you Jelly

I did not have the honor of knowing Sgt. Jacob S. Schmuecker, but I do want to express my deepest of sympathies and my most heartfelt of prayers for his family and friends. I believe our soldiers are truly the sons and daughters of all Americans. I would not want any one of them or what they have accomplished in their lives to be forgotten or in vain. So, I honor you Jacob. And I thank you for giving your life for all of us. You have made this world a better place. I will be praying for Jacob's family and friends from now on. And I join his Mom in praying daily for our troups who are still fighting as I type this. Jacob, we know you are in a "better place." You will receive your due rewards there. We look forward to joining you in our due time. And I will look forward to getting to know you then. Rest in peace, son.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Jacob, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Thank you so much to all of the people that have signed this guest book with so many loving words, it is such a comfort to my family and I that my brother, Jacob, won't just be number 3,636 on the death toll, he's a person that meant something to so many people. It hurts my heart to see more names, more lives lost, more families like mine, in deep grief. They will not be forgotten, though thanks to the people reading this right now. Thank you again for everyone's kind words and prayers they have brought great comfort.

Thank you so much to everyone who has taken the time to express their sympathy to our family. The death of our beloved son Jacob is not something we ever imagined would happen, even though we knew the danger our soldiers faced while serving in Iraq. We had complete and total faith that God would bring our son safely home to us, but it seems that God had another plan. My prayers are now for my son's fellow soldiers who continue to serve in Iraq, and I ask that you join your prayers with mine for their safe return home.

My deepest condolences to the family of Sgt. Jacob S. Schmuecker, a fallen Hero but never forgotten. There are no words only prayers. With respect and graditude from the family of Petty Officer 1st Class, Jason D. Lewis KIA July 6th,2007

August 3, 2007

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

Dear Schmuecker family - I had hoped that JUL 21 2007 would pass quietly this year, but much to my sadness, I found that you are now beginning a journey of grief co-mingled with honor. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy and wish for a tolerable "first few months" in the aftermath of your loss.

One year ago on JUL 21 2006, our son Matt died from wounds he suffered during combat operations. I can tell you that, while no amount of consolation can ease your pain right now, you will survive, move on, and cherish the memories you have of Jacob's time with you.

Our families bear a common burden that few Americans will ever understand, and we now belong to a very special family – of those martyrs for peace who hold a special place in the heart of God. May His peace surround you today, tomorrow, and in the years to come.

I had the fortune of knowing and working with Jacob, before he was a member of the military.

As a young man out of school, he spent Alot of his free time coaching young boys in baseball, taking friends hunting or fishing.
Also,, while in the service if there was a young man he knew and was having a birthday, Jacob made sure they had a Cake on thier birthday.

The military made him a fine and courageous soldier, but they had nothing to do with him being a fine man,, Jacob was a fine man and a hero long before he ever put on a uniform.

Jacob is always going to be "alive" in the hearts of anyone that ever had the chance to know him.

Words can't express how sad we feel in the loss of your loved one. But I will continue to pray for you to be loved, watched over, cared for by and held in the arms of our loving Father...until that wonderful day....when you meet Jacob again at heaven's gates. I am ever so grateful for Jacob giving up his life for my freedom and the generations to come. He is a hero!

It is at times like this that I wish I had the all knowing all seeing words to say that would make everything alright. But I will say that you and your family are in our prayers. Your family member has made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Just as Christ made the ultimate sacrifice for our spiritual freedom.
May God Bless and comfort in this time of sadness.

Sgt. Jacob Schmuecker and Family:

Know in your heart that you are a true hero and will never be forgotten. All gave some, some gave all. Rest in peace. You will be missed by everyone’s life you have touched.

To the family, as the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life’s routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family, friends, and all Americans for the sacrifice of one of your family members for our freedom. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. May you find comfort in the loving embrace of our Heavenly Father.

I didn't personally know you or your family, but saw this terrible news online and felt compelled to say something! - Thank you for your service to our country and keeping me and my family safe, secure and free - You paid the ultimate price for my freedom with your life and I am forever grateful - A simple thank you seems so little at a time like this - I pray for the family and friends you left behind and hope that they can somehow find peace at this very difficult time - God Bless you and all who knew you.
