Hey cousin, sorry I haven't been writing to you I am actually just finding out about this guest book thingy. It's not a day that goes by that I don't think about you and your goofy ways. Every year we sit and watch our home video with you in it to remember the good times we shared with you and the smiles you have not failed to put on our faces. I just wish sometimes that you were still here with us. I know you would just love your very intelligent and mean niece because ya'll act just alike and look just alike. It's hard for me to look at her at times because she favors you so much and the pain of you not here with us is unbearable. I am not going to write a novel today I just want you to know how much I miss you and that we are living your name on until the end. I Love You Juan and save all of us some room for when we all come see you again.

I only met you one time at the FMU Valentine's Day dance. You were nice and very laid back. You told me you were in the Army and you said it with confidence. It's me dad. Juan as you know Sunday was Veteran's day and Monday was the observance of it. I want to tell you that I representated you well. It was an honor to wear your medals on those two days for you my veteran son. I miss you so much Juan and I know you were proud of me as well. I felt it in my heart everytime I spoke of you. I'm going to visit your gravesite on Friday for the first time and its going to be hard but I know that you will be there to give me strength. I will never forget you my son. I met Juan through his Aunt Shontell and i worked with his sister. He was a cool person. He talked to me about joining the Army because i was thinking of going into the Navy or the Coast Guards. He was a unique person who had a way with words. But when he said something that he meant you would know it. He was a funny person but very straight forward with the point he wanted to make.And with Juan you either accepted what he said and listened or disagreed and paid him no attention. He didnt care either way. As long as he got his point out and he knew you heard him, he really didnt care if you like what he said or not. But what he said made sense and i thank him for the advice he gave me about the Army. I joined the Army shortly after he went back to Iraq. To Shontell: Sorry for your lost and I Love You. To Cassandra: Keep up the good work and keep your head up. To The Rest of the Family: I send my condolences and my prayers.

His Energy Reached Others (HERO)
That is what the word HERO means to me. My son Juan M Lopez Jr. was a HERO from the day he was born and a gift from GOD. I want to thank everyone that has taken time to write in Juan's guest book and for those people who have expressed their feelings by phone and letters, thank you. I miss my son so much. Cutting the grass is not any easy task for me because I picture him rolling around in it and doing cart wheels. I find myself talking to him while I'm cutting the grass and thanking him for being by my side as I'm cutting. I wish so much for him to be here with all of us right now. To hear him come through the front door and say "Hey dad, whats up." But then reality hits me again and a tear rolls down my face and the thought in my mind that Juan is at better place and God is taking GREAT care of him for me until we meet again. To my first cousin: You are my favorite cousin. And i really miss you. I was looking to see you for Christmas and hit me on my head like you used to. I remember you putting Sandy in the ankle lock and Shimarah in a head lock. That still makes me laugh when i think about it. I sit in school and think about you a lot. Oh yeah...Happy B-Lated Birthday. I wanted to tell you that when i talked to you. I am making straight A's and i am going to make you and my mom as proud as you made everybody of you. Juan, you were in my life for only a short time and in that time, you showed me what a good son and brother you were. I am proud to carry the title of your step-mother with me for life. You touched so many lifes with your humor. From the poems you and Evelyse shared to the emails and phone calls your father and I get from Iraq on a daily basis, every one enjoyed your humor. Your father and I are so very proud of you.

In your name we have adopted your Platoon and we will continue to help your brothers from the 5-82 Alpha Co. until they come home safely.

Sometimes I hear your father's phone ring and I run to it because that's what I did when you called us from Iraq. Your dad cut the grass the other day, but he left it long enough for you to still roll in it. He misses you so much. I miss trying to feed you all the time and you looking at me with your slick eyes telling me "No more food!"

You are in a much happier place now and one day we will all be one big happy family. Until then, I take confort in knowing you are one of the angels walking along side all who love you.
