Elisabeth Nimocks Obituary

ELISABETH HOLT BURNS NIMOCKS Mrs. Elisabeth Holt Burns Nimocks, 86, of Fayetteville, passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2014, at her residence. Elisabeth was born July 29, 1928, in Greensboro, N.C., the daughter of the late Mary Holt and Robert Owen Burns. She grew up in Fayetteville and graduated from Fayetteville High School in the Class of 1946. She also graduated from Saint Mary's Junior College in Raleigh in 1948 and from Woman's College, Greensboro in 1950. She made her debut at the Terpsichorean Club in 1947. Elisabeth was a member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America-NC (Roll of Honor) and the North Carolina Museum of History Associates board. She was also a member of the Junior League of Fayetteville, the Fayetteville Garden Club, and the Fayetteville Historical Society. She attended Saint John's Episcopal Church from childhood and was a member of the Episcopal Church Women and the Altar Guild. She was active in philanthropic endeavors. She married David Ray Nimocks, Jr. on November 4, 1950. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, her son David Ray Nimocks, III (and wife Jayne Callahan Nimocks) of Fayetteville, and daughters Mary Flagg Nimocks Haugh (and husband James Delaplane Haugh) of Fayetteville, Elisabeth Nimocks Gooch (and husband James Emmett Gooch) of Wilmington, and Lalla Nimocks Harley (and husband Donald Lee Harley, Jr.) of Wilmington. She is also survived by nine grand-children and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sister Mary Burns Detgen and her brother Robert Owen Burns, Jr. Following burial in Cross Creek Cemetery #2, a memorial service will be held on Friday, August 29, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Saint John's Episcopal Church with Father Robert Alves officiating. The family will receive friends at the Kyle House after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.

My deepest sympathy for your loss. I remember meeting Mrs. Nimocks a long time ago, and she was so sweet and gracious. I know she is in a better place.

Nimocks Family, my deepest sympathies for your loss. I've had the pleasure of serving Mrs. Nimocks while working at HCC. She was always such a sweet person and will be sadly missed by myself and the others who had the privilege of knowing such a special lady.
May God be with you now and always and may you seek comfort in your love and memories.
