Bennie Mills Obituary

Bennie Mills, Jr. On August 24, 2009, SMSgt. (retired) Bennie Mills, Jr.; husband, father, grandfather, friend and patriot left our world and now rests in the presence of his Maker. He will be missed by everyone who knew him and experienced his love in each of these roles and by the men and women of the Armed Forces who served with him proudly. Bennie served heroically in the Navy during World War II; in the Air Force during the Korean War; and once again in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. He loved serving his country and did so with honor and a spirited sense of devotion and duty. During his 28 plus years in the Armed Forces, Bennie and his family were stationed worldwide and finally retired to Central Texas in 1979 where he and his wife Phyllis established the Old Glory Bait and Tackle shop in Lockhart, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ben J. and Edna Mills; his step-mother, Johnnie Mae Mills; his sister, Dean; his brother, Jack; and his grandson, Daniel. Bennie is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis; his devoted daughters, Deana and Rhia; his son, Dion; and a whole houseful of grandkids and great grandkids. A graveside service was held September 2nd at the Lockhart Cemetery with the Texas Patriot Guard Riders providing the Honor Guard and Minister Elizabeth Pugh Mills presiding over the service. The Mills family has asked those who knew Bennie to make a donation in his name to the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center in Austin, Texas at 4216 South Congress Avenue, Austin, Texas. 78745.

To the family of SMSgt. Mills, know that we mourn his passing with you, but also that we appreciate his having lived.

Thank you all for allowing the Patriot Guard Riders to stand tall and silent for a man who stood for US, for so long.
