All-Star Father

It would not be accurate to say that Lincoln Quappé attended every one of his son's baseball and soccer matches; his job as a firefighter with Rescue 2 in Brooklyn required him to work all hours.

But he never missed a game, thanks to the Quappé Broadcasting Service, otherwise known as his wife, Jane. "If I was at a game and Lincoln was working, I would call and give him the play by play," she said.

And when Mr. Quappé, 38, was at home, in Sayville on Long Island, he was all kid- business — "a true sit-down-on-the-floor- play-G.I.-Joes-play-Barbies-build-Legos- 100-percent kind of dad," Ms. Quappé said.

On weekends, taking care of the children, a son and daughter, often meant nature trips on the boat Mr. Quappé's stepfather kept behind his house in Brookhaven and pointing out the herons and egrets and osprey nestled in the reeds or soaring overhead.

Mr. Quappé, who, like his father, was also a volunteer firefighter in his town, showed the same devotion to his job as to his family.

"Being a firefighter defined him," Ms. Quappé said. "It was his blood. It was his life. I've said to many people that if he had to die at such a young age, this is how he would have wanted to go."

To Lincoln and his dear friends and family. Yesterday, Sept. 29th, 2019, I participated in the first Highlands County stair climb for the fallen firefighter hero's of 9/11. Everyone that participated picked a name from the 343 fallen firefighters and we were encouraged to research and remember our firefighter, of which Lincoln was the firefighter I was honored to remember. For every one of the 110 steps and the entire day thereafter I was thinking of Lincoln and all of the people touched by...

Gone too soon. Thinking of you and your family Tara. ❤ Grace

Today, 09/11/2018, ( 17 years ...) we remember you Lincoln. Thank you for courage and service ... We will never forget. Wishing all the best to your family and friends. Much regards.

We attended the same high school and my sister, Christa, was his classmate. She remembers him well as a man to be admired. We all honor Lincoln and refuse to forget him. God bless his family and all families who lost heroes on that terrible day.

I didn't know Lincoln Quappe but Charlie and Heidi Quappe were once my neighbors in Camden, Delaware. When someone told me that Charlie's son lost his life on that fateful day, I have made a point of waiting for Lincoln's name to be read on every 9/11 tribute. Prayers have gone out to Lincoln's family ever since. I am thankful for this hero's sacrifice. God bless.
