Howard Groskloss Obituary

Howard H. "Howdy" Groskloss, 100, died July 15, 2006, at VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach. He was born in Sheraden, Pa., and lived in Vero Beach since 1979, coming from Miami. He graduated from Amherst College in 1930 and later attended Yale Medical School. In 1937, he became a doctor and practiced as a gynecologist in Miami for more than 25 years. While attending medical school, he played professional baseball for the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1930 to 1932. He was a flight surgeon in the Navy during World War II. Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Mary Groskloss of Vero Beach; daughters, Linda Lanteigne, Janet Perez, Marie Pereira and Joanna Montalvo, all of Miami; and eight grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960. SERVICES: A service will be at 10:30 a.m. July 20 at Christ by-the-Sea United Methodist Church in Vero Beach, with the Rev. Dawn R. Lawton officiating. Burial will be at 12:30 p.m. July 22 at Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery in Miami. Arrangements are by Strunk Funeral Home, Vero Beach.
