Rita R. Valois

Rita R. (Smith) Valois, 79 years old, of 50 Pinedale St., Southbridge, formerly of Leominster, died Wed., July 2, 2008, in her home, after a long courageous battle with lung cancer. She is survived by her daughter, Christine Caouette and her husband Michel Caouette with whom she lived; 2 sons, Norman C. Valois of Millis and Stephen N. Valois and his wife Nancy Valois of Leominster; 2 sisters, Theresa Cote and Claire Rocca both of Fitchburg; a great aunt, Eva Feltri of Fitchburg; 2 grandchildren, Kelly Bitinas of Marstons Mills and Michael Valois of Mashpee and 3 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Norman J. Valois in 1997. She was also predeceased by a brother and 3 sisters.

Mrs. Valois was born April 6, 1929 in Fitchburg, daughter of Charles and Donalda (Lapointe) Smith and had lived in Leominster for many years before moving to Southbridge 5 years ago. She was a graduate of St. Bernard's High School in Fitchburg. She was a member of Notre Dame Church in Southbridge and a former member of St. Cecilia's Church in Leominster. Rita loved cats and leaves her cat Mittens.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2008 from the Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home, 106 West Street, Leominster with a mass at 11 a.m. in St. Cecilia's Church, 180 Mechanic Street, Leominster. Burial in St. Cecilia's Cemetery will be at a later date. Calling hours will be held on Monday, July 7, 2008 from 6-9 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Massachusetts Div., 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
