Austin Greenawalt Obituary

Austin S. "Snuffy" Greenawalt, 85, of Bolton, passed away on Monday, July 28 at Bolton Manor Nursing Home in Marlboro.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Alice D. (Smith) Greenawalt of Bolton. Mr. Greenawalt was born in Clinton, son of the late Smiley W. and Georgiana A. (Wheeler) Greenawalt and was a 1940 graduate of Hudson H.S. He attended the University of Massachusetts and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII as a S/SGT flight mechanic and gunner on a B-26 Maurader, his unit was known as the "Bomb Busters". He was employed as a heavy equipment mechanic and driver for Bonazzoli and Son's in Hudson for 33 years and later was employed by the Town of Bolton Highway Dept. and Cemetery Dept. from 1992 to 2005 when he retired.

He was an active member of the former American Legion Post in Bolton and member of the Hudson VFW.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his three children, Donald Babcock and his fiancee Gini Daly of Bolton, Linda Sutton and husband John of Dudley, David Babcock and wife Kathy of Berlin; 3 grandchildren, Sherri-Lea Rizzelli and husband Jim of Marlboro, Nicholas Babcock and wife Jennifer of Leominster and Joanna Babcock of Clinton. He is also survived by his 2 sisters, Phyllis Bohlin of Middleboro and Marion Beach of Beach Park, IL. He was brother to the late James Greenawalt.

A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, Aug. 2, at 11:00 a.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home Inc. 50 Central St. Hudson, MA 01749. Burial will follow in Eastwood Cemetery in Lancaster. Family and friends may attend calling hours Friday, Aug. 1, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Arthritis Foundation, Massachusetts Chapter, 29 Crafts Street, Newton, MA 02458.
