Kenneth Gauthier Obituary

Kenneth A. Gauthier, born May 2, 1942, to Kenneth E. and Constance A. (Gauvin) Gauthier, died Fri. Aug. 8, 2008, after a brief illness. Born and raised in Northbridge, Ken was married 44 years to Frances E. (Power) Gauthier. Sadly, he leaves behind that which he was proudest, his 6 children, Michelle Drew of Whitinsville, Mike and Kathy Gauthier of Uxbridge, Hope Johnson of Northbridge, Matt Gauthier and Jaime Skillen of Whitinsville, Nicole and Steve Croteau of Uxbridge, and Peter and Holly Gauthier of Whitinsville; 10 spectacular grandchildren Jillian and Lauren, Emily and Connor, Hannah and Jake, Belle and Elise, and Cora and Joseph; brothers Richard, Robert, and John Gauthier; sister-in-law Helen Scott; his brother in his Catholic Faith Deacon Tony Surozenski; and several nephews and nieces. He was brother of the late Mark E. Gauthier.

Ken was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Germany from 1960 to 1963. He was employed at UPS for 17 years, followed by 21 years as director of maintenance at the Whitin Community Center. A devoted volunteer, he was a member of the Northbridge Fire Dept. for 28 years. In his heart he never really left. He retired as Capt. of Engine 1. He volunteered willingly for many causes-from Little League to the NHS Booster Club, but especially as a member of the Boy Scout Troop 155 troop committee.

He loved his family and friends fiercely and unconditionally. His work ethic could not be matched. He took pride in his work-just don't touch the lawnmower or step on his grass.

He loved his remote control, French fries, and Scarborough Beach, lifeguard station # 10. The music ministry of St. Patrick's brought him peace.

He was devoted to his pets Daisy and Stanley, and loved his 3 "adopted" kitties. And yes, girls do believe in Jerome.

Dad, we will continue your spooky suppers, family beach day, Easter egg hunts, Sunday night suppers, corned beef and cabbage, laughter with the gang, pizza and Prayers-but nothing will ever, ever be the same.

We will keep the tree lit. We're pretty sure there is a blue bench in Heaven.

Fly on those eagle's wings Ken and take a so well deserved rest in Jesus' arms. We love you always.

Ken's funeral Mass will be held Wed. Aug 13 at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, 1 Cross St. Private burial in St. Patrick's Cemetery will be at a later date. A gathering will be held in St. Patrick's Parish Hall following the funeral Mass. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Ken's memory to St. Patrick's Parish P.O. Box 60, or to G.M. Marston Whitin Community Center, 60 Main St. both Whitinsville, MA 01588. Jackman Funeral Home, 12 Spring St. Whitinsville is directing arrangements.

I just found out about Ken's passing as we were away on vacation and my deepest condolences go out to his family. I only met Ken about 6 months ago when I became a member at the WCC. His great personality and warm smile greeted me each morning and made my gym workout that much easier. In the short time I got to know Ken, I can see how he was well loved by all those whose lives he touched. I will miss him and his beautiful smile!

Michelle Benoit

August 12, 2008

Dear Gauthier Family,
I am deeply saddened for all of you at this time. Our students at school would always give a quick wave to "Mr. Ken" when he would walk Stanley each day. He would always smile and give a wave back, and it truly made them feel happy. One of them asked today where he had been, and I simply replied, "he's walking Daisy".
Ken's dedication to the Northbridge community is unmatched. We will be forever grateful for all he has done and given for us, most especially the gift of his wonderful children and loving wife. His example shines brightly in our community through not only his actions, but through each of you as well. Ken is what family and community are all about. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.... and the girls will always believe in "Jerome".

Dear Fran and Family,
My thoughts and prayers are with you. I have known Ken for years through many of our mutual activities and interests. I first met Ken through scouting and it was great both as a scout and then as an adult volunteer, to see his dedication to the troop. Later in joining the fire department I could also see how passionate he was in doing that and I am proud that he was my Captain of Engine 1. Then with the most recent trips that I had made to Scarborough Beach and coming across the Gauthier family. Every time I went to Scarborough, even this year I'd cast a look in the area of that life guard chair for Ken and company.

Thank you Ken for all that you have done and you will be missed.
