Barbara Bean Obituary

Barbara J. (Ferris) Bean, 73, of 78 Meadow Rd., died Tuesday, August 12, at the UMASS Medical Center in Worcester.

Barbara was born in Athol on July 4, 1935, a daughter of George and Ellen G. (Best) Ferris and has resided in Townsend since 1997. Mrs. Bean had previously resided in Fitchburg and Worcester. She graduated from the Commerce High School in Worcester. She attended church at St. Joseph's Church in Fitchburg and St. John's Church in Townsend.

Barbara had worked at the former Rendezvous Restaurant in Fitchburg for many years. She had also worked at the Paper Store in Leominster. She enjoyed gardening and supporting the community and church. Her greatest enjoyment was her family.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 52 years, Robert L. Bean of Townsend, and their nine children and sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis F. and Marlene Bean of Paxton, Brian R. and Tracy Bean of Phillipston, Patrick M. and Patti Bean of Lunenburg, James C. Bean of Ashburnham, John J. and Karen Bean of Clifton Park, New York, Catherine M. Benoit of Lunenburg, Ann M. and Timothy Schroth of Townsend, Sheila M. and Brian Connor of Townsend, Particia E. Bean of Easton; one brother, George Ferris of Nashua, NH; two sisters, Hazel Papale of Maine, Rita O'Leary of Worcester; twenty grandchildren, two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Paul Ferris, Robert Ferris and Helen Murdock.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 19 at St. Joseph's Church, 49 Woodland Street, Fitchburg. A private burial will be arranged at a later date at St. John's Cemetery, 260 Cambridge St., Worcester, MA.

Barbara was the type of person everyone enjoyed being around. She always had a smile on her face and never had a negative thing to say to anyone. I am truly sorry for your loss because I know exactly the wonderful, kind person she truly was!
