Guy Elliott Obituary

Guy R. "Dick" Elliott, 87, of Auburn, died peacefully on Friday, August 29, 2008, at the home of his son, in Worcester. His wife of 50 years, Madelyn F. (Darling) Elliott, died in 1992.

He leaves two sons, Guy R. "Dick" Elliott, Jr. of Auburn, and Kevin P. Elliott and his wife Patricia Elliott of Worcester; a daughter, Madelyn and her husband Dr. Robert G. Anusbigian of Shrewsbury; five grandchildren, Richard Moore, Nancy Koutsoukounis, Jenna Rodriguez, Caitlin Elliott, Meaghan Elliott; three great-grandchildren, Abigail Moore, Joshua Moore and Nicholas Koutsoukounis; a brother, John Elliott of Charlton; seven sisters, Barbara Scott of Prescott, Ariz., Rita M. Gudgeon of Oraville, Calif., Christine Lang of Salt Lake City, Jane B. St. Jean of Rye, N.H., Angelina Z. Mahoney of Athol, Patricia Lachapelle of Burriville, R.I. and Helen Tabor of Oraville, Calif.; and 63 nieces and nephews. His brother, George Elliott predeceased him.

He was born in Worcester, son of Guy I. and Elizabeth H. (Foley) Elliott. He graduated from Auburn High School where he was later inducted into its Athletic Hall of Fame for his all-around sports achievements.

He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He worked for the New England Telephone Co. for 41 years, retiring in 1987. He was an officer for 35 years with Local 3 of the International Brotherhood of Telephone Workers Union holding several positions including president. He was a life member of the Chester P. Tuttle American Legion Post. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and the Bishop Reilly Council of the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid golfer and had scored two holes-in-one at the Pakachoag Golf Course. He served on the Town of Auburn's Pakachoag Golf Course Oversight Committee. He enjoyed skiing, coached 16 years in the Auburn American Little League and was a council member of A.A. for many years.

Calling hours at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester, are Monday, Sept. 1 from 4 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be Tuesday, Sept. 2 at 11 a.m. in the Armenian Church of Our Saviour, 87 Salisbury St., Worcester. Burial with military honors will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the UMMC Oncology Clinic, 55 Lake Ave., Worcester 01605 or to the Auburn District Nursing Assn., 191 Pakachoag St., Auburn 01501.
