Mary Murray Obituary

Mary L. (Grosse) Murray, 86, of 1 Brentwood Drive, died at home on Tuesday, September 2, 2008.

Her husband of 57 years, Thomas M. Murray, died on April 6, 2001. She is survived by two sons, Thomas M. Murray, Jr. and his wife Marcia of Santa Maria, CA, and Christopher B. Murray of Boston; a daughter, Carol A. Murray and her husband Greg J. Vitercik of Lincoln, VT; 3 grandchildren, Richard T. Murray of Quincy, Malinda E. Murray of Walnut Creek, CA and Ellen M. Vitercik of Lincoln, VT. She was born in Providence, Rhode Island, on March 12, 1922, daughter of George J. and Margaret (Murphy) Grosse. She graduated from Brown University in Providence, class of 1943, and received her Master's degree in library science from Worcester State College.

Mrs. Murray was a high school librarian for the City of Worcester Public School System for 24 years, retiring in 1987. She was a member of St. George's Church and the White Oaks Conservation Society, member and past president of the Holden Garden Club, and member and board member of the Friends of the Gale Free Library. She enjoyed reading and gardening.

The funeral for Mrs. Murray will be held on Tuesday, September 9th, from the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden, with a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. George's Church, 38 Brattle St., Worcester. Burial will follow in Grove Cemetery, Holden. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Friends of the Gale Free Library, 23 Highland St., Holden, MA 01520.
