Joseph A. Stand Sr.

Joseph A. Stand, Sr., 90, of Youngs St. died Tues. Sept. 30, 2008 at home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth (Tucker) Stand who died in 1989.

Mr. Stand was the Regional Manager for Branch Motor Express in Natick for several years retiring in 1983 and previously had worked many years for the former Emmot Valley Transportation Co.

He was born in North Smithfield, RI the son of the late Charles and Julia (Chicacki) Stand and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He had also served in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Stand was a communicant of St. Denis Church, Douglas and active with the New England Country and Western Association. He loved gardening, his animals, fishing, hunting, and enjoyed dancing.

He was also a member of the Arbitration Board, Teamsters Local 170.

Mr. Stand is survived by two sons, Joseph A. Stand, Jr. of FL and John A. Stand of ME; five daughters, Beverly Flansburg of Douglas, Linda McDonnell of RI, Bonnie Riedl of AZ, Deborah Ducharme of NH, and Wendy Crossman of Whitinsville; two brothers, Alfred Stand of N. Smithfield, RI, and Charles E. Stand of Whitinsville; 4 sisters, Lillian Hicks of Uxbridge, Joanne Dalti of Slatersville, RI, Rita Dubois of ME, and Celcia Ingalls of ME; his daughter-in-law, Ellen Nicholas Stand of Douglas; 18 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by one son, James A. Stand and one brother, Francis Stand.

Funeral services will be held Sat. Oct. 4, 2008 at 10 AM from the BUMA FUNERAL HOME, 101 N. Main St. (Rt. 122) Uxbridge, MA 01569 followed by a Mass of the Resurrection at 11 AM in St. Denis Church, 27 Manchaug St., Douglas, MA. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Uxbridge.

Visiting hours will be Fri. Oct. 3, 2008 from 4-8 PM in the funeral home.
