Our hearts are broken by the passing of our beloved Rick who lost his brave battle with stage 4 cancer and remained positive and courageous for the long series of treatments. Rick has enriched many lives with his wonderful knowledge. Rich had degrees from Worcester J. Rick taught college level theatre and was himself a gifted actor. Rick led Chambers of Commerce in Southbridge, MA and Palmer, MA. Rick leaves his sons, Richardson "Rick" Prouty III and his wife Rusti with grandchildren Ricky & Lyndsi, and James "Jed" Prouty and his wife Donna with grandchildren Isaac & Payton.

Rick leaves his brother Stephen and wife Martine, his brother Charles N. and wife Cynthia, his brother Christopher and his sister Marilyn "Lyn" Perkins and husband Michael, and several nieces and nephews. Rick leaves behind what he considered his "other" children, his students, whom he loved. Rick leaves his former wife Jimmilee Prouty. Our sincere thanks to the doctors and nurses at Noble Hospital in Westfield, Dana Farber and Brigham & Women's in Boston, and the Baystate Regional Cancer Treatment Center; the D'Amour Center in Springfield, MA. Mr. Prouty was an amazing man. He actually made english fun for me, which is very hard to do. We didn't just go into his class and memorize words. I learned so much in the 4 months I had him, but it didn't seem boring. Rest in peace. I will never forget you.

Mr. Prouty was the kind of teacher that some may never get. When you left his class at the end of the yeat, you had learned more than a few new vocab words. Imagination was part of his daily plan. He had a respect for his students that not many others have. He enriched my life and many of my peers.
Mr. Prouty created a magical atmosphere that made you look forward to his class everyday. He's a kind soul that will never be forgotten! I miss and love him! Rest in peace Mr. Prout :)<3

It's hard to believe that not five years ago, I was laughing at his clever wit in English class, and I was spending every day after school with him, working on costumes for the junior high musicals. He fueled my inspiration for going into both the English language arts and film studies, and for that I am indebted. He inspired so much good in so many people. My deepest condolences to the family and all others who knew him. May you rest in serenity, Mr. Prouty.

Although he was my English teacher for only half of the seventh grade, Mr. Prouty was one of my favorite teachers. It was in his class that I found that I loved to write. Rest in peace Mr. Prouty, and you are missed greatly by everyone at Knox Trail Junior High School.

Although I had not spoken to my Uncle Rick in several years, I have fond memories of his kindness and contagious sense of humor. His theatrical nature no doubt helped to inspire my own love of theater. I took a drama class he taught in 1991, and I can see why so many of his students remember him as a gifted teacher. I can only hope to have a similarly positive effect on my own students.

Rick was a great brother in law. I met him in 1970 when I was just a kid girlfriend to his younger brother in law, Phil. That was when Rick taught theatre at Washburn University in Topeka Kansas. Rick loved his boys, Ricky and Jed and he was a super husband to his wife Jimmilee for 32 years. I always enjoyed spending time with Rick. I got a kick out of his comical expressions and when he would blow smoke rings. Rick was always quick to join in song with his deep bass singing voice. He was theatrical and just plain fun to be around. He patiently would drive the boat while helping me to teach several young kids how to waterski on Table Rock Lake in the Ozarks of Missouri. We shared many a beer and lots of laughs. Happy Trails! Sent with love from his sister-in-law.

My condolences to the Prouty family. I was a classmate of Rick's from the Prouty class of 1960. Rick was one of my best friends throughout high school. I have fond memories of working with Rick in the school and senior plays, hiking trips in Franconia Notch area, suffering through latin class together, summer days of tennis, swimming and just riding around, meeting at the Champ Theather, trips to Boston that our parents never knew about, working at the food booth at the Spencer fair, Friday and Saturday night dances at the various churches and at the Town Hall, flirting at the Dairy Queen and just hanging our and BS-ing. Fond memories of a good guy who had a formative and positive effect on my life.
Know that Rick and your entire family are in my prayers.

I was so saddened to hear of the loss of your Dad. Rick and Jed I remember him from a different place in time. His smile and energy was always inspiring to those around him. His passion for education and teaching was always ever present. He was a warm and dedicated friend. His dry sense of humor was always there when needed. I will remember your Dad fondly. With fond regards and many regrets. Nancy Slowick

Our condolences to Rick's family. We have many fond memories of Rick. A pleasant chat over a cup of coffee at Burkills Drug store when Rick would come home on a holiday from college. In later years when we would meet at Knox Trail School when we were priveledged to be judges at the declamation contest.
Rest in peace dear friend

My deepest sympathies to his family. I had Mr. Prouty for 7th Grade English at Knox Trail JHS as well as my soccer coach on the Junior High Girls' Team. He had this spirit about him that proved he loved to teach and coach. He always had a joke or a story to start every class and he inspired lots, including myself. We need more teachers like him to inspire our youth. He will be missed.

Mr. Prouty,

you truly were nothing but an inspiration to everyone. you taught me so much, and brought nothing but joy in the classroom. behind every smile that was created in your classroom, grew knowledge that will last a life time. your eyes were always filled with happiness as you entered the classroom. you taught me alot with english, but even more about life. being a freshmen in college, i still have yet to forget you. as you leave this world, i know that you left with a fight. you will always be in my heart, forever <3
