Leonard Erickson Obituary

Leonard R. Erickson, 84, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 7th, surrounded by his loving family.

He leaves his beloved wife of 58 years, Doris M. (Cappuccio) Erickson; his four children David Erickson of Leominster, Janice LeBlanc and her husband Arthur of Newburyport, Roger Erickson of Shrewsbury, and Robert Erickson and his wife Gail of Clinton, as well as his five grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother Harry Erickson. Leonard was born in Shrewsbury, son of the late Carl and Edith (Ottoson) Erickson. He graduated from the Major Beal High School, Shrewsbury. Following high school, Len enter the US Army, and served in the European Theater during World War II. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge, and was awarded a Purple Heart. Len then worked in the Shrewsbury Post Office for over 30 years before retiring. Following his retirement, Len assisted his son with his business, Erickson's Antique Stoves for several years. He was a charter member of Mount Olivet Church, Shrewsbury. He was also a 62 years member of the Victor Quaranta American Legion Post 397, and served as Commander from 1958-1959. Len also was active in forming Red Cross blood drives and held multiple gallon donation pins. He loved his vegetable garden and has enjoyed summering in Wells, ME for the past 39 years.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Len's family on Saturday, October 11th from 9:30-10:30 AM in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury. A funeral service will follow in Mount Olivet Church, 14 Spring St., Shrewsbury at 11 AM. Burial in Mountain View Cemetery will be private.
