Walter Marcoux Obituary

In 1937, he married the former Doris Allen and was married for 68 years until her death in 2005. Together they had four children, three sons and a daughter.

He went to work in 1938 at Heald Machine Corporation as a machinist, and he stayed with them an unprecedented 45 years. A tremendous competitor, he played baseball in the industrial league. Known for his power hitting, he was scouted by the late Joe Cronin of the Boston Red Sox.

In 1946, he returned to Heald Machine, was given a Q top security clearance, and repaired sophisticated precision equipment located at Los Alamos National Laboratory, Rocky Flats (a former nuclear weapons facility) and Oak Ridge National Laboratories. Well known in his field, Walter traveled, as a consultant, after his retirement, troubleshooting at the above facilities.

An avid weightlifter and bodybuilder, he won many major bodybuilding titles in local, state and regional competitions and was featured in several bodybuilding publications.

Civically minded throughout his life, in 1983 he became a volunteer for the Worcester Police Department. At the Police Department he provided tours and talks on the ramifications of drug abuse to almost 13,000 children and adults. He started a Neighborhood Crime Watch Program and was instrumental in eradicating a serious drug problem in the area. To Walters family, I am so sorry for your loss. I have the greatest memories of Doris & Walter when I was growing up and lived next door to them. In later years after I married we stayed in touch and it was as if time never moved. Your Dad was one of a kind, the best kind. My prayers are with you all.

As a retired Worcester police officer of 39 years, I am proud to speak of Walter in an honorable way. Over the years, I have observed Walter escorting many tours in the Worcester Police Impact Division.
He did not hold back any consequences about violence and drug use to the children and adults as well. Some of the humorous moments are when Walter showed blown up photographs of results of people involved with drugs and violence. At times, a person would faint from the gore photographs displayed. We would comment in a humorous way, ?There goes another one?
We, in the Impact Division would always listen to Walter about his experiences and wisdom in life which were many. Everyone in the Worcester Police Department will miss him.
