John Gettings Obituary

John F. Gettings, 78, in Westborough, formerly of Natick, died on Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at the Westborough Healthcare Center in Westborough.

Born in Boston, he was the son of the late John P. and Delia (Devine) Gettings. He was educated in Boston schools and was a graduate of Hyde Park High School.

During the Korean Conflict, he served with the U.S. Marine Corps.

Mr. Gettings was employed as a mechanic for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Highway Department in Wellesley prior to his retirement.

John was the loving brother of Arthur L. Gettings and his wife, Nora, of Westborough, Donald J. Gettings and his wife, Anita, of Orange Park, FL and Theresa Lamb and her husband, Douglas, of Tewksbury.

He was the beloved uncle of Beverly Doonan and her husband, Stephen, Nancy Hogan and her husband, Mark, Arthur Gettings and his wife, Carolyn, Steven Gettings and his wife, Aislinn, Richard Gettings and his wife, Michele, Susan Sargent and her husband, Palmer, Scott McNamara, Doug Lamb and his wife, Glenda, Kevin Lamb, Kathy Monette and her husband, Allen, Steven Lamb and his wife, Marilyn, Keith Lamb, Jeff Lamb and Karen Lamb and many grandnieces and grandnephews.

He was the brother of the late Dorothy McNamara and her husband, Richard and uncle of the late Barbara Lamb.

His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 17, at 10:30 A.M. in St. Luke the Evangelist Church, 70 West Main St., Westborough. Burial, with Military Honors, will follow in Highland Cemetery, Norwood.

Calling hours at the Rand-Harper-Pickering Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main St., Westborough, are Thursday, October 16, from 5 to 8 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.
