Alice E. Pickford

Alice E. (Emery) Pickford, 89 years old, died Wednesday, October 15, 2008 in Health Alliance-Leominster Hospital after a brief illness. She is survived by her son Mark E. Pickford of Fitchburg and a granddaughter Haley Pickford of Templeton. Mrs. Pickford was predeceased by her husband J. Barry Pickford in 1994 and she was also predeceased by a brother Raymond Emery and a sister Dorothy Johnston.

Mrs. Pickford was born in Leominster the daughter of Raymond and Margaret T. (O'Keefe) Emery and had lived here all her life. She worked as the director of the Seniors Citizen Center here in Leominster. With the assistance of many in the community, Alice was instrumental in getting the new Senior Center built at its present site near Rockwell Pond. For many years she served on several boards such as the Leominster Hospital board, First Service Bank board and was a founding member of the Local League of Women Voters. She was a longtime proud member and activist for the local Democratic Party and loved politics. She was also very proud of having been a past recipient of the Star Burst Citizen of the Year Award in 1994. Mrs. Pickford's love of community and sense of value always kept her involved in many civic and community activities.

A funeral was held on Sat., Oct. 18, 2008 from the Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home, 106 West St., Leominster, with a Mass at 11 am in St. Leo's Church, 128 Main Street, Leominster, followed by a burial in Evergreen Cemetery, also in Leominster.
