George R. Jurgiel

George R. Jurgiel, 86, of Worcester, died Friday, October 17th after a very brief stay in Holden Nursing Home. He leaves two sons, Stephen P. Jurgiel and his wife Diane, and Gregory R. Jurgiel, Jr., both of Worcester; a daughter, Pamela A. Rossetti and her husband John of Worcester; a sister, Anne Portelance of Leicester; a sister-in-law, Wanda Berestin; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; several nephews and nieces; and his former wife, Theresa L. (Rondeau) Desautels of Worcester. Three brothers, Stephen and Joseph Jurgiel and Fred Berestin, two sisters, Mary and Stephanie Jurgiel and a grandson, Daniel Rossetti, predeceased him.

Mr. Jurgiel was born in Worcester, the son of Joseph and Marianna (Vronicka) Jurgiel. He was a graduate of the former Commerce High. Mr. Jurgiel was employed by Coes Knife Company for 40 years as a tool and die maker until his retirement in 1985. He was a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps as a bombardier navigator, serving in WWII. Mr. Jurgiel was a member of the American Legion Post #288, Forty & Eight, and the Jewish Community Center. He built the house he lived in for the last 56 years. Mr. Jurgiel loved to play the harmonica and entertaining people with singing and the poetry he wrote.
