Raymond Woodcome Obituary

Raymond A. Woodcome, 94, of 42 Cottage St.,died Sun. Oct. 19 after an illness. His wife of 65 years Winifred R. (Rumrill) Woodcome died Jan. 12, 1999. He is survived by a son Thomas J. and his wife Sandra M. Woodcome of Whitinsville, a daughter Patricia E. and her husband Donald E. Hall of Upton, 5 grandchildren 2 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters Marguerite G. Ciesluk of Webster and Dorothy Felix of Woonsocket; and several nephews and nieces. Born in Whitinsville on September 19, 1914 he was the son of Alfred and Marguerite (Coyne) Woodcome and lived here all of his life.

Mr. Woodcome was a machinist at the former Whitin Machine Works in Whitinsville for 55 years. He was a graduate of Northbridge High School class of 1933 and served in the Civilian Conservation Corps at Fort Devens. He served the Town of Northbridge's Civil Defense Agency for 50 years and was a Northbridge Auxiliary police officer, beginning service in 1941 and retiring as a Captain in 1991. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Mumford Council 365 where he served as a past grand knight. He was a member of St. Patrick's Church.

His funeral will be held on Thurs. Oct. 23 from Jackman Funeral Home, 12 Spring St. with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, Cross St. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Wed. Oct. 22 from 4-8p.m.
