Frederick Forsberg Obituary

Frederick Ernest Forsberg of Buzzards Bay, passed away on October 19, 2008 after a long battle with Pancreatic Cancer. He was 69 years old. Born in Framingham on January 8, 1939, he was the son of the late Ernest and Doris Forsberg. As a teenager, Fred attended Tabor Academy in Marion. He went on to graduate from Boston University and also attended Humbolt State College in California. Fred also served his country in the Army National Guard.

From there, Fred went on to a long and distinguished 29 year career as a firefighter in Framingham, retiring in 1996. He spoke fondly of the comradery he shared with his fellow firefighters and kept in close contact with many of them.

A longtime Northboro resident, Fred enjoyed fishing and hiking the trails of the Wachusett Reservoir, which was one of his favorite places. An accomplished fisherman, Fred won numerous awards for his prize fishing from the Mass Department of Wildlife. Fred loved spending time with his family and pets and was a lifelong Boston sports fan. Fred also loved growing and maintaining his garden.

Fred went on to live out his final years in Bourne, where he was a longtime member of the Canal Sportsman Club where he made many friends and volunteered much of his time. He continued to fish the Cape Cod Canal until his final days. Known for his bright blue eyes, glowing smile, loving generosity, and firm handshake, Fred will be greatly missed.

Besides his wife Jane, Fred is survived by his sister Janice Robinson and her husband James of Arlington Texas, his brother in law Martin Fischer and his wife Crawford of Reston Virginia, his daughter Maureen Burke and her husband Shawn Burke, granddaughter Emma Burke, all of Orange and his two sons Michael Forsberg of Worcester and John Forsberg of Bourne. His close friends included Peggy Mann, Ellen and Bob Bartlett, Dick and Mitzy Murphy, and Kevin Crotty. Fred had a great many nieces, nephews and close relatives in Indiana as well as in New England.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m on Saturday, October 25, 2008 at Chaffin Congregational Church, 155 Shrewsbury Street, Holden, Ma. The family would like to give a very heartfelt thanks to Kelley Ryan and all the people from the VNA who came and cared for Fred. They are proof that there are angels here on earth. In lieu of flowers donations in Fred's memory can be made to the VNA Hospice of Cape Cod, 434 Route 134, Suite G-1, South Dennis, MA 02660. Jane, John, Maureen & Michael,
Our condolences to all of you and your family. Fred was such a great neighbor. We always knew that spring was coming when we'd see Fred tending to his gardens. Many of the plants that he tended are still thriving (especially the blueberries). We will always think of Fred, and the rest of you, when we see them bloom. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
