Vieno Prescott Obituary

Vieno M. (Takala) Prescott, 92, of Pommogussett Road, died Thursday, October 23, 2008 in Holden Nursing Home.

Her husband of 10 years, Lloyd C. Prescott, died in 2006. She leaves her daughter, Ruth L. Lambert and her husband Paul of Rutland; her son, Allan R. Tuukanen and his wife Olive of Auburn, GA; a step-daughter, Susan P. Brown of Rutland; a step-son, Dr. Gordon F. Prescott of Princeton, WV; a sister, Lillian E. Mikevicz of Auburn; 3 grandchildren, Andrea Tuukanen, Amy Camilli and her husband Kenneth and Robert Lambert; 4 step-grandchildren, Heather Brown, John, Karen and Timothy Prescott; 2 step great-grandchildren, Victoria and Kaitlin Prescott; nephews and nieces. Her first husband of 53 years, Arne W. Tuukanen, died in 1992, and her daughter, Judith S. Tuukanen, died in 1962. A brother, Toivo Takala, predeceased her.

Mrs. Prescott was born in Worcester, daughter of Victor A. and Ida J. (Korpi) Takala, and had lived in Rutland for over 60 years. She was a graduate of Holden High School and Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse at Holden District Hospital for 20 years and worked as a private duty nurse. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Rutland and was active in church activities including the Monday club and missions committee. Quilting, painting, sewing and the love of birds and grandchildren fulfilled her life.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff of Holden Nursing and the Hospice Services of Western Mass. for the compassionate care given to Vieno.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, October 27th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. The funeral for Mrs. Prescott will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday in the First Congregational Church of Rutland, 264 Main Street. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery, Rutland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Congregational Church of Rutland Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 484, Rutland, MA 01543.

I remember working with Vi at Holden Hospital many years ago! I also have fond memories of Vi and Arne and Kay and "Pinky" visiting us in North Carolina. What a nice lady!

I was very fond of Vi. She was always kind and willing to help anyone who asked. I remember my wedding shower at Rutland Cong Church and she was right there helping to organize the women. She was well loved by friends.
