Richard Carbrello Obituary

Richard J. Carbrello, 87, passed away peacefully, October 23rd in Millbury.

He leaves his loving wife of 60 years, Evelyn M. (Sperring) Carbrello; his son, Richard and his wife Cyndi of Palm Coast, FL; two grandchildren, Tony Carbrello of Acton and Katie Carbrello Robinson and their mother, Eileen Carbrello of Richmond, VA and his great granddaughter, Hannah of Richmond, VA; a caring and compassionate niece and nephew, Lynne Ortiz and Wayne Sperring.

He was born on January 1921 in Fall River and was a graduate of Classical High School in Worcester. Richard was a decorated 4 year Army veteran, serving in the European Theatre during World War II and among his awards were the Bronze Star and the Combat Infantryman's Badge. In 1948 he married Evelyn Sperring and they have resided in Millbury since. Mr. Carbrello was employed by H.H. Brown Shoe Co. of Worcester as a successful traffic manager for over 40 years with a perfect attendance record. He has been a lifelong member of St. Brigid Church and was a past president of the church's former Men's Club and past president and member of its St. Vincent DePaul Society. He received the Worcester Diocesan St. Vincent DePaul Society's Top Hat Award this year. He served on the Millbury Finance Committee for 10 years. He was a charter member and past adjutant of the Millbury Veterans Council. He was a Life Member, Trustee and a Veteran of the Year of the Charles F. Minney Veterans of Foreign Wars Post and was an organizer and very active in the post's bingo fundraiser, the Memorial Committee and the Building Committee of the Post. Dick was a generous, dedicated and a loving husband and father as well as a friend to many. He will be remembered for his generosity and compassion by the numerous friends, whose lives he touched.

His funeral, with military honors, will be held Wednesday, Oct. 29th from the Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St. in Millbury, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Brigid Church, 59 Main St. in Millbury. Burial will be in St. Brigid Cemetery in Millbury. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28th in the funeral home. Veterans will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday evening in the funeral home for a prayer service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society of St. Brigid Church, 59 Main St., Millbury, MA 01527 or to the Charles F. Minney Post V.F.W. We know your loved one will be missed by all who knew this great man who served his country in time of need.
