Vincent Venza Obituary

Vincent "Vinnie" Venza, 65, of West Boylston, formerly of Shrewsbury, died Saturday, October 25th peacefully at home surrounded by his family after a long courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Newark, New Jersey on February 4, 1943, he was the son of the late Vincent and Catherine (Caldwell) Venza. He was a graduate of Nutley High School and Passaic School of Drafting. He married the love of his life, Susann, 40 years ago and the family relocated to Massachusetts in 1983 and lived in Shrewsbury for 22 years before moving to West Boylston.

Vinnie is survived by his wife, Susann (Van Gulick) Venza, his three daughters, Cheryl Chadwick and her husband, Jody of Danvers, Melissa Durden and her husband, Daniel of Fairfield, CT, and Heather Coppola and her husband, Paul of Kensington, CT; also survived by five grandchildren, Kelsey, Alexis, Tyler, Maxwell and Ava. He was predeceased by his brother, Louis.

He worked for many years as a drafting manager for Thermo Electron in New Jersey and in Massachusetts and for ProtoVision in the engineering department before his retirement in 2003.

Vinnie was an avid model builder with a forte for trains, cannons and clipper ships. His passion for the history of the Civil War led him to write a book called "A Matter of Honor" which documents the life of two brothers who were soldiers. The book was dedicated to his wife and three daughters.

He was a loving husband, devoted father, grandfather, brother and uncle and he will be missed greatly. Vinnie was a supporter and contributor to the Civil War Preservation Trust in Washington, D.C.; a member of the New England Historic Genealogical Society in Boston; a member of the National Geographic Society; and a faithful member of St. Mary of the Hills Parish in Boylston.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the Venza family on Tuesday, October 28th from 5:00-8:00 PM in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury. His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 29th at 10:30 A.M. in Saint Mary of the Hills Church, 630 Cross Street, Boylston, MA. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, 383 Main Avenue, 5th floor, Norwalk, CT 06851 (www.multiplemyeloma.org) or to the Civil War Preservation Trust, 1331 H Street N.W. Melissa, Cheryl, Heather, and Susann
I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your father and husband. I have great memories of him when I would sleep over your house, all those years ago. Know his suffering is over and he is at peace now. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Susann & Family,
Our sincere condolences.
I had the privilege of working closely with Vin at ProtoVision for a time. He was an exceptional individual at his trade, and a finer person I have yet to meet. All who worked with him will miss him, and remember him fondly.

Mrs. Venza and family, I am greatly saddened to learn of the passing of Mr. Venza. I had the privilege of helping him with many an appt. He handled his illness with quiet resolve, grace & strength right to the end, even as he walked into our office this past week. He did not give up. May the Lord be with you all and give you strength to walk through these next days. He was such a nice man. God Bless you.
