Isabel Rietveld Obituary

Isabel A. "Bella" ( Amster) Rietveld, 90, of Leicester, formerly of Carroll Street, Auburn, died Friday October 24, 2008 in the Radius Healthcare Center at Southbridge after a long illness.

She leaves her husband of 62 years, Pierre J. "Pete" Rietveld, three daughters, Ruth "Cookie" Kirwan and her husband, David of Rochdale; Deborah Weidhaas and her husband, Olaf of Westborough, Linda Teasdale and her husband, Stephen of Worcester; four grandchildren, J. Wesley Teasdale, Annalisa Teasdale, Sophie Weidhaas, Max Weidhaas, a brother, Henry Amster of South Yarmouth and two sisters, Edith Raymond of Auburn and Ruth Harmon of Sutton. She was predeceased by her brothers, George, Benjamin and Richard Amster and her sisters, Janice Hagberg and Mae Amster.

Isabel was born in Worcester, the daughter of the late Michael and Delia (Subbee) Amster and lived over 50 years in Auburn before moving to Rochdale 3 years ago. She was a devoted wife and loving mother who also kept the heartbeat of the family going. Isabel was very creative; she taught crafts and was a skilled seamstress and upholsterer. She also loved gardening and spent many years ballroom dancing with her husband.

Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Wednesday, October 29th from 4-7 PM in Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St., Auburn. Funeral services for Isabel will be held on Thursday, October 30th at 10 AM in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Pete, Linda, Ruth, Debbie and families, we are thinking of you all now that Bella's long life has come to an end. Fortunately, you will have many happy memories to treasure. We certainly have, extending back at intervals over some 25 years: her trip with you, Pete, to visit us in Britain when our families first became joined, and her hospitality every time we visited Linda, Stephen, Wes and Annalisa in West Brookfield and Worcester - poolside days and meals out - making us feel very much part of the larger Rietveld family. Her New England doll doorstop is in constant us in our home. In particular, we'll remember her as the ever-present Mom and Grammy.
Love,

Maureen (Sullivan) Niford

So sorry to hear of your loss. We loved being neighbors with her for so many years when I lived with my parents on Duncan St. She will be sadly missed , but always in our heart & memories.

We all loved Bella very much at Summit ElderCare Worcester. She always warmed the hearts of all of us social workers when she would sit in our office all afternoon. It was hard to see her go when she transferred to Charlton, but we always (and still do) keep her picture in our office with her big fluffy winter hat that she so cherished. She will be missed very much. Our sincerest sympathies go out to her family.
