A. Flynn Obituary

A. Geraldine "Gerri" (Rigiero) Flynn passed away early on October 27 comfortably at home, surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous 17 year battle with breast cancer. She was 62.

She leaves her daughter, Kerri Torgerson and husband Jay of Hopkinton; son, Michael Flynn and wife Jennifer of Boston; brother, Michael Rigiero and wife Mary of Worcester; brother, Francis Rigiero and wife Christine of Leicester; sister, Carolyn Rigiero and husband Robert Krumm of Martinez, California; granddaughters: Emma and Kyra Torgerson of Hopkinton; aunt, Eleanor (Helen) Calabrese of Milford; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and grand-nieces and -nephews; and many long time friends. Gerri is predeceased by her parents, Michael and Mary (Mero) Rigiero of Shrewsbury.

A lifelong Shrewsbury resident, she graduated from Shrewsbury High School and Worcester State College with a Bachelor of Arts in teaching. For 12 years, she was a proud stay at home mother, who also worked as a substitute teacher in the Shrewsbury school system. She eventually worked at New England Telephone (now Verizon) in call center sales, moving up to management and then sales training management. Gerri was also a CCD teacher at St. Anne's parish in Shrewsbury.

Her greatest pleasure was time spent laughing with family and friends. Each year she looked forward to the extended family's annual two-week summer vacation on Cape Cod. She enjoyed trips to California, Florida and England. She was a proud participant in the annual Revlon Run/Walk for Women in New York City for five years. An avid Patriots fan, she enjoyed golfing, reading, arts and crafts, and was known to many for her keen sense of humor. She took part in Eastern & Alternative medicine and healing to help prolong her life following her initial diagnosis. Her greatest joy was being "Mimi' to her two granddaughters. Additionally, Gerri is the author of a children's book to be published at a later date. We will miss her physical presence & will cherish all the wonderful memories she has given to our blessed family & friends.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 5-8 PM in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main Street. Her funeral Mass will be held at 11:00AM Thursday, Oct. 30, from the funeral home with a Mass celebrated in St. Mary's Church, 640 Main Street in Shrewsbury. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Gerri's name can be made to the following: St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 (stjude.org); Susan G. The windows of heaven are the twinkling stars that bring the dark nights sky to life and at that very moment I'm wishing on those stars hoping that my dearest "sister" Gerri is happy, safe and free.

Maybe my dearest Gerri is looking at those same stars from the other side and making the same wish and sending me all her love.

My wonderful memories of your laughter will comfort me. You will remain in my heart always and forever.

Kerri, Michael, and Family,
I am deeply saddened to hear of the loss of your mom. She put up a brave fight for so many years. I have so many memories of her from the countless days and many sleepovers I spent on Cresent St. What amazed me most about her was her ability to create a hilarious story out of almost anything...and how quickly she could whip up a batch of chocolate chip cookies! God Bless.

Kerri, Mike - sorry that I couldn't be there with you. It is hard to imagine a world without Gerri. I can remember that first night in your house having drive up from Philly that night. Seems like only yesterday. In time we will forget the difficult ending and remember only how she lived and loved.

I was privileged to work along side Gerri at "the phone company" for several years. As a new manager, she left a lasting impression on me in many ways, but especially how powerful a positive outlook can be. She truly inspired all those around her. Hit em straight in heaven, Gerri!

Gerri,I remember when Mom brought you home. That was one of my happiest times. I was proud to wheel my little sister up and down Plainfield ave. Through out the years as we grew older your sense of humor and devotion to us all also grew. We had a lot of great times. Late night pitch games that went on forever. The saddest time was being with you when you left us for a better place. You will be missed and always in my heart and thoughts. God bless you Hon and hold you forever in his arms....Muz

My heartfelt condolences to the children and extended family of a very special woman with whom I was graced to meet and become acquainted with. While our mutual paths crossed later in life as mothers of groom and bride, Gerri left an indelible mark in my heart and my life. I love and miss you, Gerri!
