Lynette Young Obituary

Lynette Shirley (Caverly) Young, 93, passed away October 16, 2008 at Havenwood in Concord NH. She was predeceased by her husband of 34 years, the Rev. Samuel Young, who died in 1973; two sisters, Lucille Kodes of Charlestown NH and Dallas Cheeseman of Ormond Beach FL; and a grandson, Nathan Andrew Choi Young of Worcester MA .

Lynette is survived by her sister, Patricia Higgins of Guilford, NH; a son, the Rev. Dr. Samuel W. Young, and his wife Cynthia of Oxford, MA; a daughter, Barbara Lynette Young of St. Louis Park, MN; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The eldest of four sisters, Lynette was born to Linden Merton Caverly and Bernese Lucille (Roby) Caverly on June 1, 1915 in Tilton, NH. A 1933 graduate of Laconia High School, she studied at the University of New Hampshire before completing her bachelor's degree at the Hartford School of Religious Education in 1937. Later in life, she earned a certificate in library science.

While raising her family and serving with her husband at Congregational churches in Dorchester, Dracut, Lowell, Scituate and Granby, MA, Lynette worked as a religious educator and as a librarian, retiring in 1983. Throughout her life, she expressed her love of music as a children's choir director, pianist and chorister.

A memorial service will be held at Havenwood, 33 Christian Avenue in Concord, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 22. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Havenwood-Heritage Heights. The Bennett Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
